#DentalTipoftheDay: Hello everyone! Today we would like to talk about a very interesting topic when dealing with the little one’s dental work, drum roll please! Dental Anesthesia & Sedation and is it okay to use it on the kiddos ? As dental practitioners some of the most common questions that we encounter usually include, is it safe for my kids? What type of anesthesia are they going to use? How are you going to use it? What are some of the side effects that they will en...counter? And finally is it going to hurt ? As you can see these are very normal questions and concerns that every parent has when their kids are about to be medically induced, but fear not! We are here to explain what actually happens! When dental procedures become a little complicated Pediatric Dentist usually rely on Nitrous Oxide aka laughing gas , which is a mild sedative that children breathe in with a little oxygen, the gas helps them be more relaxed. Most will get a little silly and lightheaded but it usually wears off after 3-4 hours, we recommend a good long nap ! Other types include both moderate and mild sedation, this include a combination of medicationsthat will further relax the patient while being awake, the main difference is the level of sleepiness that they will encounter, again a good long nap is also recommended! Finally deep sedation & general anesthesia is used in very rare cases, but it usually involves IV medications, this only administered under the watchful eye of an anesthesiologist, in this case the patient is completely out and the body is totally relaxed and no pain is ever felt! We hope that you have been informed !!! Happy Wednesday from our family to yours!!! #ParkSmile #NoPain #Teeth #HumpDay#FeelingSleepy #Teeth #Dentist #Smile See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: We’re back!!! After a short hiatus #ParkSmile is ready to bring all new Dental Tips of the Day to the masses !!! We hope everyone had a great weekend and that you’re ready for today’s topic!!! Today we want to talk about an all too common condition that plagues both adults and kids! Bruxism aka teeth grinding and or jaw clenching, Bruxism is a para-functional activity that triggers a response via brain signaling, when we find ourselves under stres...sful situations that mimic chewing and talking. Close to 33% of the population suffer from an undetected form of Bruxism and often times, if left untreated can have disastrous effects on our pearly whites . There are two types of Bruxism, Diurnal Bruxism & Nocturnal Bruxism . Nocturnal Bruxism often times is the most damaging to our oral healthcare as it usually occurs when we are fast asleep !!! It can lead to hypersensitive teeth, aching jaw muscles, headaches , tooth wear and damage to dental restorations . Usually the best course of action is to get a dental guard and use it overnight . Even though it may be uncomfortable in the beginning you’ll get use it, but most importantly you’ll be able to protect that beautiful smile in the long run! If you have any questions or are currently suffering from any type of dental or mandibular pain feel free to contact us or come in for your next dental exam here with us at #ParkSmile!!! Happy Monday and we wish everybody a great week!!!#WeAreBack #ParkSmile #Teeth #GoodVibes #Dentistry #NoMoreGrinding #SF #Smile See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: Today here at #ParkSmile we want to explore a subject that is very familiar to all the kiddos and all the wonderful parents that take care of them, !!! Should we or should we not allow our kids to consume these tasty treats ? Even though they’re extremely delicious and appealing no matter how old we are, candy, (even though it’s completely harmless) needs to be supervise (specially how much and what types of candy we are eating)!!!Because eating too m...uch candy and not properly brushing or flossing can cause serious problems to our mouths!!! This is due to the constant exposure to sugar which can be harmful to our teeth , specifically the structural part of our pearly whites. When we start to munch on hard candy, these treats can put our teeth at risk because, they can trigger different structural damage that can lead to broken or chipped teeth and in some cases torn fillings which are NO FUN !!!! The hard surfaces on such candies have also been known to cause serious abrasions to our gums and different parts of the mouth, so please make sure to monitor what you let your little ones eat!!! So what’s the best alternative? Start chewing on healthy snacks, like vegetables sticks and sugarless gum!!!! Believe us, you and your teeth will thank us!! Happy Monday from our family to yours!!! #HappyMonday #Teeth #Dentistry #Teeth #Flossing #EatingHealthy #ParkSmile See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: Today we have decided to cover one particular situation that often plagues the kiddos and most of the time concerns all the parents when it happens. The dreaded shark teeth! But there is no need to be worried! Usually your children’s permanent teeth will begin to erupt between the ages of 5 & 7. If their pearly whites come in like they are supposed to, the permanent, or adult, teeth will usually tend to dissolve the root of the primary, or baby teeth a...s they emerge causing them to become loose, wiggly and eventually fall out. Hooray , for all things that are supposed to happen according to plan!!! However, sometimes things don’t go according to planand we see that the adult tooth will erupt behind the baby tooth!!!! And this can be quite concerning for many parents, but this is extremely natural and is a very common occurrence that all Pediatric Dentist are equipped to handle!!! When this occurs the first thing to remember is not to panic, instead make sure that your child has no discomfort and after a little bit of time check to see if the tooth is starting to wiggle! 9 times out of 10 this is usually the case so you’re in the clear !!! But if for some reason there happens to be discomfort and the little guy isn’t budging, make sure to bring your child to see your Pediatric Dentist as they’ll be able to handle this situation quickly and effectively!!!! So what are you waiting for? If your child is in any pain or you have any questions, come see our Pediatric Dentist extraordinaire Dr. Pearline Chang!!! She’s always happy to take a look! Happy Tuesday from our family to yours!! See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: We here at #ParkSmile want to cover a very familiar topic that all parents encounter with the little ones , some like it, others fight it and others aren’t even remotely interested in doing it. So we decided to present a few tips on how to get the kiddos to PROPERLY BRUSH & FLOSS THEIR TEETH EVERYTIME !!! Properly brushing and flossing our pearly whites, is EXTREMELY important because it keeps sugar bugs away after we eat and prevents us... from getting caries or cavities in our teeth! It’s also important because it keeps our mouths sparkling clean and can further prevent tooth erosion and other complications!!! SO HOW CAN WE GET OUR LITTLE ONES TO BRUSH MORE ???? One of the most successful techniques is turning tooth brushing into a game , with a reward system !!! Parents you can overturn an egg timer filled with colorful sand, and challenge them to keep brushing until all the sand has reached the bottom, then set a couple of dates each week for a tooth inspection ! Get your self a little magnifying glass and tell them that you’re the tooth inspector!!! Make sure to set a little reward system for each improvements and keep a little log of their records for each inspection!! Another technique is to buy your little ones a toothbrush that blinks or plays music for two minutes. We also recommend playing their favorite song via the free Brush DJ app which, plays tunes in your library for two minutes. Another clever technique that mommy’s have used is telling the babies stories in which, little animals or sugar bugs are hiding in their teeth, and the mission is to find all these hidden bugs and capture them with the toothbrush and floss! Have the little ones choose which animal to go after each night, and use the toothbrush to chase them across every tooth & crevice as it darts all over the mouth and tongue , and make sure to use floss to capture the little bugs when they fall and get stuck between the teeth, which happens every single night!!! Happy Brushing and have a great Tuesday from our family to yours! #Smile #ParkSmile #Teeth #Dentistry @ Park Smile See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: We here #ParkSmile want to dedicate today’s dental tip to all the new mommy’s and all the new daddy’s of the world, that are currently wondering what they should do when their newborns teeth begin to erupt? And if it’s actually important for these teeth to be taken care of? The answer is a resounding YES !!! Even though your children’s teeth aka the baby teeth aren’t designed to remain with them their entire lives, it matters tremendously that th...eir pearly whites are regularly flossed, brushed and carefully cleaned to avoid any sugar bugs from leaving any unwanted cavities and further avoiding tooth erosion!!! Please, keep in mind that just like with your teeth, it’s important to keep your child’s teeth healthy and sparkling as well because it improves health and decreases the chances of any illness or infection from occurring!!! The American Dental Association recommends you start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first one erupts and bringing them to a pediatric dentist around their first birthday . Tooth decay can affect everyone, so it’s important to practice good oral health to prevent any long-lasting problems. Happy Monday from our family to yours!!! #HappyMonday #HealthyTeeth #BabyTeeth #Dentistry#Smile See more

#DentalTipoftheDay: Here at #ParkSmile we want to make sure that all of our patients feel comfortable and understand all of the steps that are taken during a routine cleaning or dental procedure ! One of the most common tools used within the dental field is the dental X-ray machine! But have you ever wondered why dentist take dental X-rays of your mouth ? The answer is pretty simple, dental X-rays help us look between your pearly whites so we can properly check ...for any decay that any sugar bugs may have left! Another major aspect, is that dental X-rays help dentist in preventing any infections and any further damage that may occour inside your beautiful mouth !!! With the help of these nifty machines, dentist are also able to see if the patients have any subsequent bone loss , while examining to make sure that all teeth & dental filings are intact!!! Please rest assure that the people utilizing these instruments are highly qualified and have gone through extensive training!!! And even though it’s considered a form of radiation, it is often times given in very low doses for a very short period of time so you and your family are at no risk whatsoever! #DentalTipoftheDay: Here at #ParkSmile we want to cover a very familiar procedure that a lot of people are familiar with, because they’ve heard of it, seen it or have even experienced it, but don’t really know what it’s actually for , the famous Dental Crown !!! But what is a Dental Crown and what is it used for? A Dental Crown is an intricate dental procedure that dentist use to completely cap or encircle a tooth or dental implant, after sugar bugs have left big c...avities on our pearly whites!!! And it’s used to further protect the structure of the tooth!!! This is one of the most common procedures, and per usual dentist have done these hundreds if not thousands of times, so again no need to fear, because you’re in great hands !!!! We hope that you’re having a great Tuesday and remember to floss and brush your teeth!!! Till next time!!! Whenever, our pearly whites are attacked by sugar bugs , our teeth can receive structural damage and if left untreated the inside of the tooth can become infected . In order to stop this from happening, dentist have devised a medical procedure to properly disinfect , decontaminate, protect and seal the compromised tooth! Root canals are some of the most common procedures that dentist conduct on a daily basis! It’s very important for you to properly brush and floss your teeth to avoid getting a root canal, but if you’re ever in need of one, you shouldn’t worry because you’ll be in great hands !!!
