In case you missed the virtual ride-along with Sgt Rasul last week, here is a video highlight of the day. We hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about our "Singing Sergeant"! Stay tuned for later this week when we will post a video with Officer Appling! #PGPDMeetTheTeam
Did you know? Garrett Morgan was an early 20th century visionary who notably invented a device which can be seen on most any intersection with a traffic signal. After witnessing a terrible traffic collision in an intersection, Mr. Morgan invented the automated three (green, yellow, red) position traffic signal in 1923. His invention has helped countless drivers travel more safely. Traffic signals at that time had only two positions, "stop" and "go", which resulted in many c...ollisions as drivers didn't have enough time to clear the intersection before cross traffic started. Morgan's third light, the yellow light, gives drivers that safe buffer to slow down in time for a light that is about to change. Garrett Morgan was born on March 4, 1877 in Paris, Kentucky to two former slaves. When he was just 14 years old, Morgan moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he immediately started working and inventing. Among other things, Morgan invented a gas hood, used by firefighters to safely enter buildings with smoke, and hair care products. Because of his race, Morgan faced adversity when selling his amazing inventions or receiving accolades. So join us now in remembering Morgan's incredible contribution to the safety of our nation! #BlackHistoryMonth #TrafficSafety #TrafficTuesdays

Lovers Point Beach: Water Access Prohibited Due to the high surf advisory, water access at Lovers Point Beach is currently prohibited for safety. You may still enjoy the beach, but keep your distance from the water and do not turn your back to the ocean. The waves are dangerous and unpredictable.
UPDATE: 12/23/2020 as of 9:40pm, this dog has been picked up and brought back home safe! Thank you to all who shared! This little cutie was found in the area of Spruce Avenue and 19th Street. Unfortunately this dog's chip has not been registered. If this is your pup, or you know who they belong to, please call the Pacific Grove Police Department (831)648-3143.
The turnouts along Ocean View Blvd have been closed due to high waves. We know that the powerful waves are incredible to watch, but please enjoy from a distance and don't turn your back to the water. This afternoon we have responded to approximately 7 water rescues in a 30 minute timeframe. Luckily everyone made it out safely, but it is not worth the risk. Not only does it to put your life at risk, but the lives of first responders and Good Samaritans who jump in to help.
Elfficer Buddy brought in some cereal from the North Pole to share with our morning crew! Maple puffs and tiny marshmallows...Yes please! #PGPDElfOnTheShelf #NewElfficerInTown
Happy New Year! We are wishing you all a very happy and HEALTHY new year. May this year be a turning page to bigger and better things! #TogetherPG2021 #happynewyear
The waves are fierce today! There is a high surf warning in effect currently, but it’s always important to remember ocean safety. Waves are unpredictable, so never turn your back to the water. Always keep children within reach and don’t let them climb on the rocks because the tide can come in quickly.
Today was super special, Elfficer Buddy helped our team deliver a little extra holiday cheer to a few families here in Pacific Grove! Thank you to the Pacific Grove Police Officers Association, the Monterey County Crime Prevention Officers Association and to our wonderful and generous PG Community for making this possible. The greatest gift of all was the smiles on the faces of the kiddos! Here is Buddy, guarding the last bit of gifts on our way to our final delivery! Thank... you Elfficer Buddy for your help! #pgpdelfontheshelf #elfficerbuddy #toydrive #presents #jolly
Each change of shift our officers conduct a briefing to discuss significant things that happened before they came on duty, a plan of action for that shift, and any other information that is helpful to them carrying out their duties. Buddy led briefing for our night shift officers! #PGPDElfOnTheShelf #NewElfficerInTown

Did you know the turnouts along Ocean View Boulevard are named? Often, Police and Fire are dispatched to an emergency call for service along the coastline. It is common for responding units to be given numerous locations along the beachfront. We have heard "It it's about a mile past Lovers Point" or "In front of the Lighthouse." In efforts to make calls for service a little less confusing, signs are posted identifying each turnout. The signs are located at the first entranc...e of each turnout as you travel west along the coast. #PGPDinforming #landmarks #oceanviewsafety #turnouts #publicsafety
Earlier this week, Elfficer Buddy and our Crime Scene team responded to a report of a break in at a candy store. A large amount of candy and money had been taken. The suspect was wearing a mask and had a bushy tail. Elfficer Buddy collected paw prints and evidence from the scene. These clues led them to the Bandit AND they recovered the taken candy and money! Good job Elfficer Buddy! #elfficerBuddy #pgpdelfontheshelf #OhMyGarland
