Pacific Rod & Gun Club 21.12.2020

The PRGC lost its oldest living member this past week. RIP, Ray Brooks. Know that your friendly and witty presence graced so many people at the PRGC, and that you are the only one who can say that you shot the final target at the Club! We will miss you, Ray. More details to follow.

We’re sad to inform everyone that Edward B. Figone passed away earlier this week. For those of you who knew Ed, you knew what a staple he was around the PRGC, where he spent countless hours keeping the club running and operating, especially during some of our tougher times. In appreciation of his decades of service, we dedicated our club house to him in 2014. He was an avid duck hunter and trap shooter, and he will be missed. Rest In Peace, Ed.

3 years ago today. Miss this place, people, and all of the wonderful memories. Doesn’t get any easier as the years go by.

RIP, Mayor Lee. While we wish you could have done more to help our Club, we’re glad you had the chance to experience it and give shooting a try. Thank you again for all of your service to San Francisco.

The Pacific Rod & Gun Club is sad to announce the passing of our good friend and fellow sportsmen, Sheldon Beitzel. Sheldon was an active member of the PRGC for many years, and when not breaking clays, he could often be found taking the time to help out with one of our many Club events or patiently instructing friends and newcomers to our great sport - always with a great big smile on his face. Please take a few moments to reflect on your memories of Sheldon, and please keep ...his friends and family in your thoughts and prayers during this tough time. May we all never forget what a special person he was. Donations in Sheldon's memory can be made to the The Guardsmen Endowment Fund (www.guardsmen.org). He will truly be missed. Sheldon A. Unfortunately, we had to shut down our website last night as we can't afford to continue the ongoing maintenance costs. We will keep this Facebook page up as long as we can, so please use this media to share photos, stories, and connect with each other. We hope you have all found new places to enjoy our beloved sport and culture, but we will always miss this irreplaceable place that has been taken away from us by the cruel and intolerant hand of San Francisco politics. Stay strong, stay passionate, and stay proud!

Thank you, Veterans!

Veterans Day always falls on November 11 for a specific reason. It was historically established to observe the end of World War I which formally ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the armistice with Germany took effect. Today we recognize and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. There is no group of Americans more special among us than our veterans. Their sacrifices are many. They spend time away from their loved ones and often put their lives on the line to defend and protect the freedoms we enjoy. Today we offer a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to the many, many Americans who have served our country. God bless our Veterans, and God bless America.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Unfortunately, the SF Rec & Park Commissioners have decided to move forward with the proposal from Lake Merced West, LLC for the PRGC site. The next meeting for you to testify AGAINST Lake Merced West’s plan will be on Thursday, October 20th, 10:00am PST at City Hall in Room 416. This will be the last chance to get in front of Rec & Park before it goes in front of the Board of Supervisors for final approval. ... At this point, there are really two scenarios we all need to be focused on and want to encourage the Commissioners to consider: 1.) Amend Lake Merced West’s proposal and require that they include recreational Trap & Skeet shooting. The historic fields are currently underutilized, and it makes sense to reactivate them and bring back Trap & Skeet shooting. 2.) Terminate this RFP and issue a new request for interest, qualifications, or proposals that do not preclude Trap & Skeet shooting from the site by allowing small amounts of non-toxic and biodegradable matter to potentially fall into the lake. Attendees at the meeting will have up to 3 minutes to testify by signing up to speak prior to the start of the meeting. We encourage as many of you to attend as possible, but we need to be consistent in our messaging to reflect the options above. Please remember that at this point it is not about saving the PRGC or defending the Lake Merced Outdoor Center plan, rather, this is to highly encourage that Trap & Skeet shooting be required as part of Lake Merced West LLC’s plan or reissuing an RFP that doesn’t preclude Trap & Skeet shooting. Please be clear, personable, respectful, and meaningful if you decide to speak. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please email your support by clicking on the following link: http://prgc.net/email-your-support/. PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO CARES ABOUT SHOOTING SPORTS. We had 105 emails submitted before the last meeting, but that’s not enough. We have included copy in the email form on the website that you can use, but we encourage you to write a respectful and personal message. Time is running out, folks. Now is the time to let your voice be heard.
