You should skip your pre-workout stretches because now scientists say it might interfere with your performance. . ... . FACT ! We used to believe that stretching before your workout was a big part of avoiding injury, but it turns out it’s actually NOT. Researchers believe that stretching before a workout can tire out your muscles before you get to the part where you’re actually doing work! Instead, it’s a good idea to warm up before you work out by doing big dynamic movements that mimic what’s going to happen to you in your workout. This can include brisk walking, calisthenics, movements like lunges, arm circles, and leg swings. THE TAKEAWAY: Stretch your body’s major muscle groups AFTER your workout when your muscles are warm, or at another point during the day, at least 2-3x a week. Is a dynamic warm-up already part of your workout prep?! Let me know below ... Time to get REAL. Do you ever have those days when you are working on a new goal or creating a new habit and you just feel OVER it? Your willpower is slipping and you are ready to say to heck with it? It’s time to HALT and borrow a powerful method from the recovery movement. When you feel like letting go of your healthy new habit, chances are 1 of 4 feelings (or maybe a combo of ALL of them!) are affecting you.... That is where the word HALT comes in you might be Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired. We don’t make the best decisions when we feel any of those things. That’s why it’s such a good idea to step back for a minute or two. Do a little scan of your current situation to find out what’s REALLY going on ... and then take action to fix the underlying cause! As in: eat a healthy snack, meditate, take a walk (outside if possible) to get a fresh perspective, reach out to a supportive friend or family member, or even take a nap or go to bed early! It is absolutely AMAZING what a difference it can make to HALT (literally and figuratively!) when you feel like giving up. It gives you a chance to look a little deeper to figure out why you’re feeling the way you are, and then take care of yourself. (And be super proud of yourself in the process!)

Here is a quick tip if you sit a lot! It’s about adding some twisting/rotational stretches to your day! It feels GREAT and they can help loosen up your shoulders, lower back, and hips. Almost everything we do in life works in two planes of motion either front and back or side to side. That’s why it’s a good idea to add movements in what’s called your body’s transverse plane!... That is a fancy term for when you rotate any of your joints. Here’s a simple twisting stretch you can do at work... Either stand or sit up tall with your feet firmly planted on the floor. Think about making yourself about 2 inches taller than you actually are, with your shoulders back and abs strong! Feels so good! If you want to take it to the next level, the picture below is another rotational stretch you can add to your post-workout routine.n slowly turn to the other side. Repeat a few times on each side. Feels so good! If you want to take it to the next level, the picture below is another another rotational stretch you can add to your post-workout routine. Happy twisting!

What are you scared of? I came across an article about a woman who felt like she was scared of pretty much EVERYTHING: the doctor, heights, dogs, driving and even getting older. The same day I heard a completely different story about a man who moved to the US to start a company but failed miserably on his first try. ... He was devastated and it almost crushed him. After some self-reflection, he realized it wasn’t the failure, but his crippling fear of rejection that was preventing him from living his life again These two people didn’t know each other, but they both decided to take the same course of action. They were tired of being held back by the fears so they decided to rush headfirst into them! Each challenged themselves to do what scared them, for 100 days straight. They stepped way outside their comfort zones to do things like rappelling, walking in the subway in their bathing suit, or touching giant, hairy spiders. One by one, they faced their fears. In the process, they learned they were capable of SO MUCH MORE than they ever imagined! This is so inspiring and empowering. Our society has it all wrong. We like to think of brave people as having no fear but the truth is, you can’t be brave unless you have fear! Without it, there is nothing to overcome. What’s ONE THING you can do today to further your LIFE in the direction you want to head? I’d love to hear about it! Let me know below ...

When I started this challenge to weight loss I was unsure if it would work for me. I have always been a full figured woman who had gotten comfortable with just being okay with my weight, even though I was my biggest critic. I needed a change, but did not know how to go about getting it done. I have always been a person who loves to encourage and inspire others to thrive and accomplish their goals.... So today, not only am I an inspiration to myself, but I hope my journey has been an inspiration to others. #22.1lbsin6weeksloss - Miriam O’Conon. www.p2pfitnesschallenge.com NEW Challenge starts Saturday!!

Just came across two interesting tidbits about goal-setting that can have an impact on how you feel mentally and also your likelihood of actually achieving your goals! First: You should actually WANT to achieve the goal. Too many times we go after certain goals because we THINK we should not because we actually want to. If you’re feeling lukewarm about your goal, do some thinking into WHY you feel that way. ... If it’s still something that you NEED (even if you don’t want to do it), then try a REFRAME. This could include focusing on the payoff vs. the time/work it will take to make it happen. It could be focused on what life will be like AFTER you reach your goal, rather than on the temporary discomfort you may experience to get there. Second: Be as specific as absolutely possible. Instead of eat clean, this could be eat 3 to 5 servings of vegetables every day or eliminate added sugar.
