Dr. Shawn K. Centers was a speaker at the AutismOne /Thriiive Summit in Los Angeles over the Labor Day Weekend! Dr. Centers represented the Osteopathic Center for Children and the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy in top level meetings on the status of autism treatment in the United States and the world. In addition, he was a speaker educating parents and professionals on the importance of Osteopathy in Autism treatment. Dr. Centers was joined by Harvard trained Pedi...atric Neurologist (and fellow San Diegan) Dr. Suzanne Goh, CDC researcher researcher Dr. Brian Hooker, and many other outstanding researchers and clinicians. Tim Bolen, a Health Freedom Advocate made famous by his defense of integrative medicine physicians against the now infamous Quackwatch group was in the audience of Dr. Centers lecture. Tim was impressed with Dr. Centers information and mentioned his presentation in his newsletter the Bolen Report which is sent to over 500,000 subscribers worldwide. Tim said: One particularly good lecture was by Shawn Centers DO, the founding President of The American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy. ATSU STUDENT DOCTOR SPENDS VACATION WEEK AT OCC While most medical students rush home and become coach potatoes during their holiday break, Student Doctor Kathy Milam ( also a 2nd lieutenant in the US Air Force) spent one of her weeks at OCC helping Dr. Centers with his small and sometimes unruly patients. She only got spit up on a couple of times. Student Doctor Milam has a great interest in Osteopathy is not passing up any chances to get experience. Coincidentally, she was surprised to find several faculty members and staff from Kirksville (i.e. the Mecca of Osteopathy) also at OCC. Looks like ATSU students have a bright future.

PRESERVING THE PAST, LOOKING TO THE FUTURE Over the past few days our friends from The International Center for Osteopathic History-Museum of Osteopathic Medicines and A.T. Still Research Institute of the Andrew Taylor Still University in Kirksville, Missouri ---- Dr Brian F. Degenhardt (director of the A.T. Still Research Institute) and Debra Loguda-Summers curator of The International Center for Osteopathic History and her devoted husband from the AT. Still University ...visited us at the OCC. It was a delight to speak to Debra and gain wonderful insights and knowledge about Dr. Still, The Still family, and early osteopathic history. Debra and Dr Degenhardt were at the OCC exploring our archives, documenting , recording , and reviewing the extensive files and historical works of Dr. Frymann and the OCC. They have also been documenting the unique treatment approaches developed by Dr. Frymann including extensive video recording of Dr. Frymann treating patients and later having her narrate step-by step what she is perceiving, feeling and doing with the skilled and probing questioning of Dr. Brian Degenhardt--- during patient treatments. Eventually these recordings will be part of the historical collection at the International Center for Osteopathic History and will additionally be available for osteopathic researchers at the A.T. Still Research Institute. We are very excited about these video presentations and know that they will be invaluable to the profession for many years to come. Dr. Frymann, a direct student of William G Sutherland, has spent a lifetime perfecting Osteopathic techniques as they apply to children, establishing the Osteopathic Center for Children dedicated to treating children from around the world with the unique osteopathic approach and teaching physicians in the Expanding Osteopathic Concept. Although the Kirksville crew enjoyed our mild San Diego weather, their one complaint was that they were having difficulty keeping up with Dr. Frymann and her hectic schedule. In fact we hear that on several days Dr. Frymann had them working through lunch but this was rewarded at the end of the day with delicious San Diego cuisine. I am sure the crew is glad to be back in Kirksville so that they can take a much needed rest. We heard Debra say it will take many years to compile all the artifacts and data given by the OCC and Dr. Frymann. Good Luck and Well Wishes ( By the way, although this type of extensive videotaping is a first for the profession, there is dozens of hours of tape and it will take a while for them to edit it ..so don’t overwhelm them with requests to see the videos yet) HOWEVERyou can be updated t by what the museum is doing by going over to their Facebook page and LIKING them. They have a goal of having 1000 likes by December 31. Help the Osteopathic historians out. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Museum-of-Osteopathic-Medicine/146496028699316
