Happy #ThrowbackThursday OKP Family! Today we are highlighting Murray (formerly known as Humperdink). Big thanks to Murray's family for sending us this update! Here is what they had to say: "We thought you might enjoy these photos of our sweetest boy who turns two on May 26th! He is the gentlest, fluffiest cat bringing so much joy to our family! "... We LOVE to see what our OKP alumni are up to! If you have an OKP alumni and would like to be featured, send us some high quality photos and a short update/bio to [email protected] !

#GoodNewsTues ! Here is a Good News Tues post about Ivy, a very special OKP Alumnus! Ivy came to OKP not feeling well and very jaundiced. Originally we suspected he might have FIP, but after some testing it seemed more likely that he had cholangiohepatitis. With antibiotic treatment and TLC from his diligent foster, Ivy’s jaundice cleared up and his bloodwork returned to normal. He is now the color of a normal kitty and has grown into a very handsome boy. He is super sweet and cuddly and has happily found his forever home with his foster! Swipe to see how Ivy used too look!

ADOPTABLE KITTY ALERT Max, aka Maximilian (which literally means the greatest) is an extremely sweet and affectionate 6 month old kitten with a spinal cord injury. We all worried he would never walk again, however nothing ever truly stops Miracle Max! He walks pretty well (a bit like a raccoon), can jump on low chairs, climb onto the bed, runs up and down stairs, and climbs a small cat tree. He truly enjoys story time, meaning he tells you a story while you hold him lik...e a wee baby. Max loves to play but is also a great lap cat, and comes whenever you call him. He loves his kitty friends, tolerates the annoying dogs and would do best with another kitty to keep him playing and strong. Max does still have some residual challenges from his spinal fracture. He is incontinent bowel and bladder so he wears regular diapers, which is unlikely to change. His diaper is changed 4-6 times a day and he does great with a few treats. His tail was amputated after his injury, and he has never missed it, so diaper changes are easier. Max is a total lovebug and an exceptional kitten! Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Max does still have some residual challenges from his spinal fracture. His tail was amputated and he is obviously more comfortable and even more mobile! Max has begun to play like a regular kitty with his foster siblings! He has some challenges with his bladder and bowel movements but it has only improved in the 12 weeks since his injury. He is currently wearing a diaper but he does like to play in the litterbox and has successfully used it at an increasing rate. Let us know if YOU are the right fit for Max! And if not, SHARE this post to help Max find his furr-ever family!

Merope update!!!!

Orphan Kitten Project at UC Davis 30.12.2020

This #ThrowbackThursday #tbt , we are featuring an OKP Alumni previously named Milo (now named Waldo!). Here is what Waldo's forever family have to say. "I adopted Waldo (originally named Milo by OKP) when I began my masters program at UC Davis in 2013. Fast forward and I have now graduated as a veterinarian from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and I served as the president of the Orphan Kitten Project (2018-2019). I am beyond grateful to OKP, not only for Wald...o who helped me through these many years of schooling, but for being such an amazing program that allowed me to become a leader and spread the importance of orphan kittens and neonatal medicine! Waldo is a unique cat who helped raise foster kittens, adores car rides, and most of all, harassing everyone for food. Couldn't imagine my life without him." BIG thank you to Waldo's mom for her work with OKP and for adopting!

Merope's Fundraiser is still ongoing! Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has donated and supported Merope so far. For those that haven't, here is a link to the fundraiser we started for her care: https://www.facebook.com/donate/415931226286136 (also linked in instagram bio)... Feel free to donate through FB, venmo, or Paypal with as much or as little as you're able! Even the smallest donation will make a difference for this girl! If you are unable to financially support at this time, please SHARE the fundraiser or this post so that more people can learn about our sweet little Merope! Here is some background on her. Merope was found hanging in a fence and turned into the local animal shelter, from which she was transferred to OKP's care. Because she was tangled in a fence for so long, she had an injury above her ankle that stopped blood from being able to return to her body. This caused a lot of swelling and damage to her ankle joint and foot, but the wonderful surgeons at the VMTH were able to remove the injured tissue and are patiently managing her case as she grows back the damaged areas and relearns how to use the leg. She's almost 8 weeks into her recovery, and now she just needs a little help regrowing her skin. The VMTH is recommending a skin graft to help her cross this final hurdle and get her ready to find her forever home where all she'll want to do is cuddle and play all day. BIG Thank you UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for making their surgeries possible!
