THROWBACK THURSDAY Samuel and Alice Armor House, 363 South Orange Street, Orange, California, 2003. Image shows front view of the Craftsman bungalow which was originally designed and constructed in 1913 for the Armors by the Orange Contracting and Milling Company. Samuel Armor was on the Orange City Council and County Board of supervisors, and later constructed the Armor Building. Alice Armor published the Orange Post newspaper from 1892-1915. ... This is a one-story bungalow with a double, front-facing gable roof and wide lap siding on the facades. Elephantine piers on brick bases support the entry porch covered by the forwardmost roof, and a small mullioned transom is set into the gable face. A photograph of the home was featured on page 50 of " ; Beautiful Orange Homes," ; a promotional brochure from the early 1920s that featured examples of design and construction by Orange Contracting & ; Milling Company. Trivia Tuesday! In 1886, this woman organized a group of civic-minded women in fund raising for the first Plaza improvement project. The improvement project provided a fountain and foliage for the community. The cost of the fountain in was $535 and arrived in February 1887. Adjusted for inflation, that’s estimated to be $14,814 in today’s dollars.
