NORTH MYRTLE BEACH POLICE SERGEANT DECEASED FOLLOWING VEHICLE ACCIDENT On January 1, 2021, North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Sergeant Gordon William Best lost hi...s life while in service to the community. About 4:00 am on January 1, Sergeant Best responded to a call for service in Barefoot Resort. Roads were very wet and, while headed southbound on Highway 17, he lost control of his Police vehicle. OCTOA President L. Bao (SAPD) stopped by a convalescent home in the city he lives in to meet and say hello to the first female Sheriffs Deputy in Orange County, Alice Chandler. She has not been able to leave the home since March, like a lot of other people. It made her day to see him ride up on his motorcycle. She is a piece of history and she is ALWAYS happy to see, meet and support all Law Enforcement Officers!

To the Huntington Beach Community, It is with many mixed emotions today, I am announcing my retirement from policing. After more than 30 years in policing and ...nine as a Police Chief and seven years here in HB, it is time for me to focus on my health, my family and whatever comes next in life. It has been the honor of my career and my absolute pleasure to have had the privilege of serving as your Police Chief. One of the things I have so enjoyed during my tenure here, is the passion you all have for our community. The people and the passion are what makes HB such a special place. It is not just the beautiful weather and the beaches, it is all of you. Thank you all for the support you have consistently shown for the men and women in the Department who serve you every day. With all of the difficulties in policing across the Country and the State, our team realizes how fortunate we are to serve in HB, because of our community. We are all in great hands as there are so many dedicated, talented and wonderful people in the Department serving this community with honor each and every day. Please continue to support the men and women of the Department and keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers. HB has become our adopted hometown. My wife and I plan to stay in HB and continue our involvement in the community. I hope to see many of you around town. Thank you and may God bless you and your families. Rob Handy

The Board of Education told the Chardon HS (Ohio) football team that they couldn’t carry a Thin Blue Line flag when they ran onto the football field. Here was the community’s response last night! So many thin blue line flags!
