Firefighter Friday Alan Perrault has been a heavy fire equipment operator for seven years. He began his fire career with another agency and has been with us for one year. During significant wildfires, he is one of our dozer operators combatting the fire with firefighters. Alan is married and has a son and a daughter who love bragging about their dad. Away from work, he enjoys going to the river and desert with his family. ... When asked, he tells aspiring firefighters to find a mentor and listen to everything they’ve got to say. His most memorable firefighting experience was during an initial attack where he and his brother, who is also a HFEO with CAL FIRE were fighting fire side by side.
Listen to the radio traffic as firefighters battled a fire in a 19th-century house last night- just two doors down from from fire station 72 in Santa Ana. Crews quickly declared a primary all-clear of any victims before moving to a defensive mode due to the structure being severely weakened. Crews safely re-engaged the fire from the exterior. #ocfa @CityofSantaAna @ocfirefighters
Are you wildfire ready? Prepare now by creating a Disaster Supply Kit and Go! Bag. They should contain the 6P’s: prescriptions, papers (copies of important documents), and personal supplies. If you are forced to evacuate, your Go! Bag will ensure you’re prepared during and after a wildfire. To prepare your family, visit ocfa.org/RSG #WildfireWednesday
Our LA County Fire Department brothers and sisters suffered a terrible loss today. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of a fallen brother and to everyone at LACoFD during this difficult time. Our flash hoods protect us from fire and cancer-causing particulates in smoke. Fortunately, they’re easy to clean and be replaced so there’s no reason to have a dirty one. We have an exchange program where firefighters can swap out at an incident. #FFCancerMonth #FightFFCancer
The men and women of the #OCFA send our thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, and coworkers of Captain Chris Mertz. Posted @withregram @rsf_fire With heavy hearts we inform you of the Line of Duty Death of Captain W. Chris Mertz.

The crews from E58, E9 and T9 had a kitchen fire response on Christmas a little after 5pm on Bloomfield Lane in Las Flores. The family’s Christmas dinner (and they were cooking for another family too) was ruined by the oven fire. Truck 9 had a great idea to bring Christmas dinner over to them since they had so much extra food at the fire station. So E9, made a special delivery of food to the family with all kinds of food.Needless to say, the family was super appreciative and really liked the Christmas spirit shared by OCFA. #Christmas #HappyHolidays

Last night your #OCFA firefighters were able to save 6 dogs from a fire in a home. Our first priority when we arrive on scene is to locate and rescue victims. This includes pets as they are an important part of the family. We were happy to be able to reunite the dogs with their family!

Always be prepared for the unexpected! Last night your #OCFA firefighters from Truck 22 responded to a vehicle fire. The car ended up having fuel leaking causing what we call a running fuel fire. In addition to putting out these car fires we also try to prevent or stop fuel from entering storm drains or damaging the environment.
As we reminisce during our 25th anniversary, we remembered the plane crash at John Wayne Airport on February 17, 1981. Providing emergency services as OCFD then, AirCal Flight 336 was on a scheduled flight from San Jose Airport to John Wayne Airport. Around 48 minutes into the flight, the crew received clearance for a visual approach to land. As Flight 336 was approaching, another AirCal plane, Flight 931, received clearance to take off from the same runway. The controller recognized the potential danger of a collision between the two aircrafts and ordered Flight 931 to abort takeoff and instructed Flight 336 to go around. Flight 931 aborted its takeoff; however, Flight 336 did not go around and instead landed on the runway with the landing gear retracted. All passengers and crew members survived the crash. #OCFAFactFriday
