Open Paths is deeply grateful to the Fineshriber Family Foundation for their continued generosity and support of our work providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed therapy to those who lack access, which is needed now more than ever!

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the longest night! As the shortest day of the year, the solstice can signify renewal and rebirth, with longer days filled with more light ahead. By chance, tonight is also the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, when the two planets align with one another. They will be passing closer to one another than they have in 400 years, and it’s been 800 years since the conjunction has occurred at night, allowing nearly everyone across the world to look up and watch! (NASA) Tonight, about an hour after sunset, find some open space, look to the southwestern sky and try to spot Jupiter and Saturn!

This year has been difficult, to say the least. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we are so grateful for your support. We are also incredibly grateful to Kendall Evans, our amazing friend and colleague who passed away this year. She gave her heart and soul to this organization, and the impact she has had on us and the many people she served truly is immeasurable. We are also excited for what is to come in 2021, including moving into our new location next summer! Once again, we thank you for being here to support us, and please know that we are always here to support you!

Here is Open Path’s guide to getting through L.A. County’s new stay-at-home order! This guide will help direct you to where you can find more info about the order (visit bit.ly/CAGOVorder for statewide order FAQs and bit.ly/LACOVIDORDER for LA order FAQs), some day-to-day things you can do for your mental health, and some free resources! Importantly, we understand that with so much going on, it can really be difficult to focus on our mental health. However, we’ve just got to ...make it a priority. Your mental health truly is just as important as your physical health. If you’re feeling depressed and anxious, that makes every other part of your life hardergetting work done, connecting with loved ones, planning for the next few weeks So we encourage you to really take time to focus on yourself, at least for a few moments. How are you feeling, how have you BEEN feeling, and whator whocan help get you through this? If the answer to the last question is Open Paths, then we’re here for you. You can visit openpaths.org or call (310) 258-9677 to reach us.

As this year comes to a close (thank goodness!), we want to thank two of our longtime foundation partners, the Weingart Foundation and The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, for their ongoing support! With their help, we are able to continue working towards eliminating financial, cultural, and geographic barriers to counseling services for people in L.A. County. We are so grateful! Learn more about both organizations here: The Weingart Foundation: https://www.weingartfnd.org/home The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation: https://rmpf.org/
