I suspect it is hard to love a Social Worker. They get up early and don't have time to drink coffee or read the paper. They often come home late and are too tired to cook. They work extra because they know there are families who need them. They don't get too excited over a minor crisis because they often deal with massive crisis’ all day and they have seen far worse. They often don't want to talk when they come home; they have talked all day. They don't want to move when they... come home; they have moved all day. It may seem that they have left all their caring and their hearts at work and return home empty; and at times they probably have. At times they have to deal with angry families and all the while they do their best to help them. But they don't talk about how at times they are scared. They are scared to miss something; scared they will let their families down or leave the children unsafe. At times they are scared to enter homes; scared of who might walk through the door; scared of what they might find in working with others. They don't tell you how the trauma they see affects them and how stressed they are about the pain many families go through. I suspect it is hard to love a Social Worker, but Social Workers need your empathy. They often need to be cared for and at times they need to be held. I hope you will do the hardest work you may ever do: love a Social Worker! Thank you to those who appreciate them and let them do this work, live this life; this calling: Social Work. We will now be able have fast, touchless, accurate screening of our visitors to protect the health of our children and staff. Adoption Bliss! Yesterday the Gonzales family officially became a forever family. Yes, even in the midst of a pandemic OTR, the County and the court systems are still hard at work. Congratulations to this beautiful family!

Where there's a will, there's a way. Or...where there is WiFii, there's a way! Day 1 of school is in the books! OTR is proud to be piloting an employer sponsored Co-Op program that enables our staff to go to work while their children are attending distance learning on-site! This Co-Op learning center is located on Buena Vista street and is helping make the transition back to school easier for everyone. We have also started flexible work schedules that are tailored to our sta...ff's individual needs. All in a days work... #OTRstrong #workingparentsmatter

Sometimes you just have to stop taking life so seriously! Working with children and families during a pandemic can be very stressful. So we let loose a little last week with a different theme every day. Spirit week was a success from our 80s ice cream social, to red white and blue...every day was different.
