Two of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States use mRNA. COVID-19 mRNA vaccines teach our cells how to make a piece of a protein to trigger an immune response and build immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19. mRNA does not affect or interact with a person’s DNA, and the cell breaks down and gets rid of the mRNA as soon as it is finished using these instructions. Learn about mRNA vaccines and how they work: https://www.cdc.gov//2019-ncov/vaccines/differen/mrna.html

A Last Request in 2020 for Support of Legal Assistance for Seniors COVID-19 has caused so much hardship this year. There has been great sorrow, yet there is also reason for great hope. Legal Assistance for Seniors continues its mission in Alameda County to safeguard the rights and dignity of those in our community who might otherwise have nowhere else to turn. Because of COVID-19, many seniors in Alameda County have seen their housing put at risk due to many factors from the ...loss of employment to increased healthcare costs and other expenses. When you donate to LAS, your support helps to provide seniors with full-scope legal representation to preserve and stabilize their housing. Our lifeline services help to ensure that seniors will remain housed in our community during these extraordinary times. LAS is present in our community in so many ways. Whether providing free and unbiased community education, individual counseling and advocacy to Medicare beneficiaries, or legal information, advice, and representation, LAS is there to assist seniors in understanding their rights. Please consider making a donation to LAS today: A donation of between $25 and $175 helps us educate a group of seniors on their Social Security rights. A donation of between $250 and $750 enables a HICAP counselor to meet one-on-one with a Medicare beneficiary to guide them through their healthcare options. A donation of between $900 and $2,500 sends an Elder Abuse Attorney to a homebound senior to ensure their safety and independence. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and will help us to continue our work. Please help us in our mission to assist Alameda County seniors who might otherwise have no other place to turn during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please donate today to make a difference in your community.

Legal Assistance for Seniors is always concerned about injustice against oppressed groups. At this time, it is vital that we stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. There is a well-documented, centuries-long history of racist, state-sanctioned violence towards Black individuals like Dominique "Rem'mie" Fells, Riah Milton, Ahmaud Arbery, and Trayvon Martin. Like so many, we are enraged and saddened by the police killings of Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, Tamir ...Rice, Steven Taylor, George Floyd, and countless others. This moment demands that we act with urgency in support of Black lives. We honor the bravery and respect the commitment of those protesting across the nation amidst a pandemic. This uprising gives us hope that there is a growing majority that is willing to fight for the systemic changes needed to dismantle White Supremacy and replace it with systems grounded in equality, justice, and opportunity for all. As an agency, we are proud to serve the diverse communities of Alameda County. It is sobering that the injustices that many of our clients and staff have endured over their lifetime are still faced by their children and grandchildren. We are committed to looking inward, educating ourselves, furthering the discussion, and doing the difficult, uncomfortable, and necessary work to combat racism and inequality in all forms.
