We need your help! On Tuesday, at about 4:30 p.m., a woman was walking in Mission Viejo along La Glorieta near Los Viveros when she was struck by a newer model red/maroon colored Scion (box style) that fled the scene. The driver was described as an Asian male with a dark complexion, 5’5-5’8, black medium length hair, with a round face and distinct moles or pigmentation on his face. He speaks Tagalog and has family in the area. His vehicle is believed to have front end ...damage with possible front passenger-side tire damage and is driving on a spare. The victim suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital; please call dispatch with any information at 949-770-6011. See more

Did you know that the easiest and most powerful way to protect against fraud is the placement of a credit freeze (also known as a security freeze)? While a credit freeze in the past required written communication, each credit bureau has a website that allows for the freeze to be easily toggled on and off as needed #TipTuesday
This year, OCSD employees donated more than 2,000 toys as part of the Social Services Agency's Operation Santa to benefit children who have been abandoned, abused or neglected and placed in foster care. Deputy Broadwater, who works at the Intake Release Center, spearheaded an effort to collect more than 800 of those toys to donate on behalf of the Sheriff's Department. Check out the CBS Los Angeles story about the special connection Deputy Broadwater shares with the children of Orangewood that inspires him to give back. https://bit.ly/3mH6iD7

When it’s time to change your clocks, it’s also time to check your family’s emergency preparedness. Make sure to check the batteries and test all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. It’s also a good idea to check your family’s earthquake kit and update it, if needed. #PreparedNotScared
Halloween looks different this year. While skipping traditional trick-or-treating is recommended, if you and your family are out to look at Halloween decorations be mindful of others who may drive by to see decorations. Here are some safety tips for those on foot and behind the wheel: Be visible, carry a flashlight & wear reflective clothing if you are out at dusk or at night so drivers can see you. Stick to familiar, well-lit routes.... Only cross the street at crosswalks or corners where it is safe. If you’re doing car-based tours of decorations, be extra alert for other vehicles backing out of driveways or leaving parking spaces. Watch for pedestrians and yield to them at all crosswalks. Fentanyl continues to be a dangerous threat to our community. Just 2 milligrams of the potent drug is enough to cause an overdose. Many street drugs are now laced with this powerful synthetic opioid. The Orange County Crime Lab has seen a 100 percent increase in the presence of fentanyl in all drugs tested by the lab. With the ability to be absorbed through the skin, fentanyl also poses a danger to first responders on scene during a potential overdose or narcotics violation call. #RedRibbon
Today and every day, we honor and recognize the men and women who serve as first responders. Thank you to law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics and dispatchers who answer the call not only in the most trying of times, but every single day. We are grateful for your dedication and service to our communities. #NationalFirstRespondersDay #DoGoodInGreen
#OCSDPIO The County evacuation map incorrectly showed all of the area in Trabuco Canyon, north of Plano Trabuco and South of Cooks Corner, under an evacuation warning, covering Trabuco Canyon evacuation zones 1 and 2. The area immediately adjacent to Robinson Ranch is not under an evacuation warning at this time. Only the area adjacent to Portola Hills in Lake Forest is under an evacuation warning since 0530 this morning, 10-27-20. The map has been updated to highlight the correct zone. AlertOC will continue to send messaging to affected areas when it becomes necessary. We apologize for the confusion. You are encouraged to monitor social media and local news for updated information.
