This week our Tip Thursday comes to you from Vanessa about feeding! Trying a new food can be overwhelming for some kiddos. Desensitization to textures, smells, and the unknown will help build confidence and make tasting food less intense. Playing with food is a great way to introduce and become familiar with new food items. When the spotlight is no longer on eating, interacting with food becomes quite fun! Suddenly, plain yogurt mixed with food coloring becomes a finger painting masterpiece. At lunch, you and your kiddo can cut deli meat and cheese slices into fun shapes and have veggie sticks go swimming in ranch dipping sauce. Two birthdays in two days! We could only be so lucky!!!! Today we celebrate our newest OT, Dr. Sarina!!! This year, Dr. Sarina has been grateful for the opportunity to spend more meaningful time with her family and friends. She has enjoyed walks/hikes from LA to Oceanside and exploring southern California’s hidden gems such as Laguna Beach, Julian, Runyon Canyon, Manhattan Beach, and more. This year was Sarina’s 5th year volunteering with the Wounded Warriors Battalion West,... through the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, at Camp Pendleton and she is looking forward to more volunteer opportunities with the JMMF and the USO in 2021. Sarina has loved getting to know the families and the OTG team! She is extremely grateful for the kindness, support, and camaraderie that she has experienced at OTG! She is looking forward to incorporating more of her experience from working with active duty Marines and Veterans from all branches to her work as an Occupational Therapist at OTG. Next year, Sarina is looking forward to getting back on the golf course and enjoying the tranquility (and frustration) of the fairways. This year, Lexi is grateful to have gotten to work with families via teletherapy at the beginning of the pandemic; she found it very helpful to be able to work with families in their own homes to help discover things they could do at home to help their children. Lexi is also grateful that OTG created a safe environment for returning to the clinic in the summer and continue to help children and families in person. Thi...s year has had some silver linings for Lexi and her husbandthey’re expecting a baby boy in May! This year has definitely presented its challenges, however Katy is the kind of person who embraces changes and always wants to find an opportunity to grow and this year has provided many opportunities! Two years ago making the choice to change from the adult to pediatric setting has been one of Katy’s most rewarding career experiences and Katy is honored to have such an amazing team at OTG. Reflecting upon this past year the silver lining wi...th COVID is it has provided Katy the chance to be creative, educate families within their own home environment, and continue to advance her clinical skills. Katy completed a 12 week online pediatric feeding course called "Feed the Peds," and looks forward to advancing her skills as a pediatric feeding therapist! In the past year, Katy has been able grow her faith, improve her yoga practice, spend quality time with her boyfriend and dog outdoors, and establish her own home workout routine. Katy and her boyfriend look forward to closing escrow and building their future home in Oceanside in the year 2021!! We are so excited to celebrate our first October birthday at OTG! Today we get to celebrate one of our amazing Speech Language Pathologists, Valeria! This year, Valeria is grateful for the opportunity to spend more intentional time with her family. She has enjoyed lots of activities like picnics at the beach, walks through Old Town Orange, attending church virtually, and trying different yummy dishes cooked up by her boyfriend. Although her original birthday plans involved a... trip to Cancun, she is now looking forward to spending her birthday at home, enjoying her mom's amazing cooking. Valeria is also looking forward to finishing up the FeedThePeds feeding specialty course this weekend and continuing to grow as a speech-language pathologist. Most of all, she has loved getting to know the families at OTG over the last few months! They are definitely worth the drive from Orange County every day. It’s time for another birthday celebration!! Today we get to celebrate Dr. Liz, our newest OTG Occupational Therapist! Liz is so thankful to be spending her birthday with the OTG family this year. Since moving to California, Liz has enjoyed being able to spend more time with her brother, exploring her new home, and getting to know all the kiddos and their families. She has picked up some new hobbies, like surfing! Liz is looking forward to taking the SOS feeding course next... month to expand her knowledge in feeding therapy and continue growing as an occupational therapist.
