Please meet our October Athlete Of the Month, Dani Silvas: I have been part of the CrossFit community off and on for about 6 years. I started my journey at an Escondido box while I was in college. I loved it so much that while I studied abroad in Barcelona, I made it a priority to find a home that was walking distance from a gym. I participated in my first CrossFit Open while interning in Spain and really enjoyed the community that reminded me of home. Once I graduated colleg...e, I moved back home and decided to build my own home gym but the motivation was not the same. I missed the competitive environment and also really missed being around people and coaches so I decided to re-join a box. After getting married last year in November, I moved back to North County where I had decided I wanted to take another break from the gym but my husband was currently attending OCF and urged me to attend and try it out. ANNNDD here we are! One of the best things I like about OCF is the Coaches. They are always there to support you and to point out small things you can work on to improve technique. I also love the community and being around people that will push your limits. One of my current short term goals is working on building strength, and one of my long term goals is showing up to the gym 5 to 6 times a week. I also really enjoy visiting other gyms when traveling and participating in CF competitions. I have done about seven different competitions, individually and in teams. Whether you are new to CrossFit or have been part of it for some time, it is important to set realistic goals and strive to accomplish them. Listen to your body and be true to your own abilities. It is completely normal to feel intimidated but if you fully commit, you will see progress even beyond your own capabilities.
