This teen is graduating with a 4.7 GPA and making history as Oakland Technical High School's first male Black valedictorian.

Today, Chief Armstrong was honored to meet Ahmed Muhammad. The Oakland Technical High School senior is the first African American male valedictorian in school ...history. To kick off our segment on elementary and high school Bay Area Artists we have, Leila Proctor, and her piece inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Frida... Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits. She inspires me because of her message of body positivity and embracing who you are. For this piece, I wanted to capture Frida's essence. I decided to create a self-portrait and used acrylic paints. This piece symbolizes the lack of emotion that I felt at the time. Next week, October 12-16 is National School Lunch Week, and one of the premier grab and go programs in the nation is celebrating. While honoring the entire team... of OUSD nutrition services staff and volunteers who make the program a model for the rest of the country, the District is also celebrating by giving out prizes to lucky students and families. For all families who take advantage of the grab and go this Thursday, October 8, the team has a special celebration. Along with the food that is distributed Mondays and Thursdays, some food bags will contain lucky golden tickets. A total of 100 tickets will be distributed across the District's 22 sites. Each ticket will be a winner, giving the student and family one of a range of prizes including school supplies, footballs, Ayesha Curry frying pans, Walmart gift cards, and even bicycles.
