Equity or Else National Campaign Launch Monday 9am-12pm (PST). Join OPEN, Journey for Justice National Alliance, and our allies from across the country for the... launch of our new campaign. The event is gonna be fire. Use this link to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/equity-or-else-quality-of-life EQUITY OR ELSE: QUALITY OF LIFE AGENDA CAMPAIGN LAUNCH & VIRTUAL RALLY As a result of a historical presidential and vice- presidential election - Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities are still plagued with economic, education, housing, safety and health inequities fueled by systemic racism for communities of color, the pandemic has highlighted the entrenched racial inequities that have pervaded nearly every quality of life aspect that most white Americans take for granted. The police murder of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are a critical reminder that a call for racial justice is in front of our communities. We are demanding federal investment in our quality of life platform which will address the state-sponsored sabotage of basic quality of life institutions in our communities such as education, safety, housing, health care, climate and economic development. The Journey for Justice Alliance, along with the Center for Popular Democracy, National Alliance Against Racist and Police Repression, Network for Public Education, Alliance for Education Justice, Black Lives Matter at School Week and community-based organizations, labor unions, parents and students across the country will participate for a Virtual Rally on May 17th EDUCATION COMMUNITY SAFETY HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT HOUSING CLIMATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT YOUTH MANDATE FOOD APARTHEID
PARENTS TALK ABOUT SAFETY- The Black Cultural Zone and Bay Area PLAN came together for a conversation about what it will take to reopen schools safely. We are advocating for the rights parents have at this time and are sharing various resources available for parents. We must make sure that parents have a choice in keeping their children home and continuing distance learning. We are also concerned about the challenges faced by SPED children and families, and how racism is still showing up throughout zoom classes. Watch the conversation now! Like, Share, and Comment below if you hear something that resonates with you!
What will a Biden presidency mean for public education? Check out this series of short videos, where past NEA President Lily Eskelsen Garcia asks Joe Biden for his positions on the following- choosing a Secretary of Education, educator pay, immigration reform, Special Education (IDEA) and Title I, racial & economic equality, and charter schools
"On Oct. 22, teachers’ unions throughout Alameda County, including Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton and Oakland, sent a joint letter to the Alameda County Schools Superintendent L. Karen Monroe, the County Health Officer and other county officials asking for certain safety measures before teachers can return to school."

"Democrats for Education Reform, a centrist group that supports Obama-era accountability measures, is pushing several names and hoping for a secretary who will be open to their views."
"For the Oakland school board, progressives are poised to take three out of four seats, despite an estimated $840,026 from billionaires Michael Bloomberg, oil heiress Stacy Schusterman and Silicon Valley investor Arthur Rock to support pro-privatization candidates. The winning campaigns of Sam Davis (D1), Vancedric Williams (D3), and Mike Hutchinson (D5) all had a serious ground game with a tremendous amount of support from the teachers’ union whose membership phone-banked and text-banked throughout the pandemic." #VoteWithOaklandTeachers
Please help pick up campaign signs while we wait for official results! #VoteWithOaklandTeachers
Still waiting for official results, but it looks like we may have succeeded in our goal to #FlipTheBoard ! "'Our community members have seen over the last four to 12 years that the school board has completely ignored their voices,' said VanCedric Williams, the leader in the District 3 race. 'When we talked about this as an election of corporate control or community control of the school board, it resonated.' #VoteWithOaklandTeachers
ACTION ALERT Envision Education Charter School has FIRED veteran educator & union president Denise Huey. They claim she didn't respond to an email from her principal. The truth is that she's an advocate for her students and co-workers. Management fired Denise for her union activity. No warning, no progressive discipline. This is a power play by management.... Help us fight back: Sign the petition now & share it with your co-workers.
