Fantastic day practicing equine helicopter in Upper Bidwell Park. Thanks Butte County Sheriff Air Unit, Butte County Search and Rescue, UC Davis VERT Team, Chico Fire, Cal-fire, and Enloe Flight Care. A special shout out to the fantastic pilots, James and Scott. And Dr. Madigan, who came out of "retirement" to help us get some valuable training. It was worth spending two weekends in a row training on this valuable skill. Now let's hope we never have to use it...

Early this morning, around 3:00AM, Oroville CHP received reports of an injured man in the wildlife area. The man called for help with the last of his phone batt...ery. He stated he was lost and had injured his ankle and knee. Unable to find him by car, Oroville CHP units searched on foot until he was located. After confirming he could not walk on his own, they carried him over a half mile to safety where Cal Fire and Ambulance personnel could provide care. #gotyourback #chpfit #trooper #legday See more

#MerryChristmas Remember to practice fire safety in your home this holiday season. Keep water in your #ChristmasTree. Make sure flammable items and heat sources are kept away from your tree. You can see in this video demonstration we did today how quickly a Christmas tree can burn.

California has moved Butte County from the Red Tier to the Orange Tier in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. The Orange Tier allows more businesses to reopen ...and some that are already open to increase capacity. Changes are effective immediately. Keep in mind that activities allowed under the Orange Tier are not necessarily safe. Certain activities, such as dining indoors and gathering, are still high risk. Continue to wear a face covering, keep your distance from anyone outside your household, wash your hands often and get tested if you have been exposed or have symptoms. Get a full understanding of which business sectors and activities may change operations in the Orange Tier, visit the State’s Blueprint for activities and business tiers: tinyurl.com/CATierFramework See more
We love stories from our volunteers out in the field. This is why we do what we do.
Humans aren’t the only ones who have been affected by the North Complex Fire. Animals, including black bears, have been displaced from their normal areas and a...re moving around, seeking shelter and food. Even small displacements can lead to conflict with humans as the bears search out new sources for nourishment. Black bears are opportunists and will eat almost any high-caloric food that is readily available. In the wild, these types of food include acorns, berries, fruit, and dead carcasses. After a fire, stressed bears may be attracted to easy food sources like human food and garbage. Local residents could expect to see more bear activity along roads, like this bear spotted along the Oro Quincy road and towns, during these tough times as they search for food closer to humans. It’s extra important for people to avoid attracting bears with human food. Let wildlife stay wild, don’t feed wildlife or they will become habituated to people’s food leading to conflict and bears may have to be put down. In the weeks and months ahead, life will return to some semblance of normal for those of us affected by the North Complex Fire. Bears too, will be able to readjust to changes in their environment and be rewarded this spring with an abundance of forage from sprouting trees, shrubs and grasses as the forest returns to life.
Some weekend fun! First responder animal saves -> I’ve been saving them so here’s what I’ve accumulated. ( plus I need to free up room on my phone)
NVADG North Complex Update Although things are slowing down, we still are working hard. There are no more evacuations or shelter-in-place (SIP) activities going on. Owners have been able to take over all these roles. The Communications and Evacuation Teams have demobilized.... Both small animal shelters, and the large animal shelter are all open. The current plan is for all of the temporary animal shelters to be closing on October 23rd. All animals who have not been reunited with their owners, will be transferred to local permanent shelters. From there Butte County Animal control will continue to put resources into finding their owners. A website for all unclaimed animals rescued from the North Complex Fire is available at https://phshelter.com/event/northcomplex. This site will be updated often so please check back to view new images. If you feel that an animal on this site is yours, please email us at [email protected] with the following information: Your name and contact number Your address (or address where the animal was prior to the fire) Animal ID as seen on website All identifying marks on the animal that are unique to him/her (for example: species, spots, extra toe, long hair, color, size, behavior) Attach a picture of you with your pet from before the fire If you do not have the ability to email us, please call the Hotline (530) 895-0000 and they will connect you with the Reunification Team. Our community has been blessed with overwhelming medical help for the animals caught in the North Complex fire. UC Davis veterinarian students work together with a team from Texas A &M to keep a cat warm after coming out of anesthesia while two other teams, including a NVADG member, work with two additional cats that were brought in by the evacuation teams. All three cats are resting comfortably and getting plenty of love and rest so they can have a speedy recovery.
While the evacuations are being lifted, and property owners are starting to get back into their homes, families are coming to the shelters and picking up their beloved pets. The excitement these animals show and the owners "thanks" are enough to know we've been able to help in a tough situation. Unfortunately there are still many unclaimed animals looking for their owners. You can view those animals at: PHShelter.com/event/northcomplex
Over 50 miles of hose lay were used in the North Complex fire suppression efforts. Fire crews retrieve these hoses from the fire’s interior and haul them back t...o camp where they are sorted and rolled by the California Conservation Corp crew. The hoses will be delivered to the fire cache where they are cleaned, inspected and sent out to new fire incidents. See more
The days start early, with sunrise, at the animal shelters. As Animal Control Lead Ryan addresses a group of National Guards at the Cal Oaks shelter while Garrett from Code 3 teaches another group of National Guard about horse safety at Camelot.
