Today the men and women of the Laconia FD spent the morning pressure testing almost 10,000 ft. of new fire hose in the heat and humidity. This assures that each... length of hose is ready to be used under pressure and that we have no defective lengths before we use it at an emergency. This hose was purchased along with 7 Thermal Imaging Camera (used to locate victims and hidden fires in smoke and darkness) as well as a Compressor and Cascade system that was installed in our Central Fire Station to fill our breathing apparatus, as part of a FEMA Grant program. The total cost of all of this sorely needed equipment was $163,531.96. However, due to the Grant of $156,415.48, the total cost to our community and taxpayers was a mere $7126.48.
