Normandie Church of Christ 15.11.2020

Here are some of the events and holidays for the month of November. Please attend the ones you can.

Meet Brother Ken Morrison! He is one of the deacons and an active member in the church. He said his favorite gospel is the book of James. Since he been teaching the Wednesday morning class this year, he has been able to get an appreciation for the style, emphasis on wisdom, and how to apply it to practical Christian living. James cuts to the chase in a way that confronts and challenges you to walk the talk. This study has helped me to be not only a better leader but a better ...man. When asked what is a fun fact about himself, he explained his love for traveling. He also mentioned the love he has for thrill, things such as skiing from the top of Mammoth Mountain, ATV riding in rugged terrain, jet skiing, parasailing. As far as cuisine is concerned, he mentioned that will try almost anything once including escargot, alligator, and once even tried snake meat and yes, it kinda taste like chicken. Lastly, when asked about his favorite Normandie he mentioned the annual bar-b-que (especially the musical chair game) and the annual Diamondaire Event, held during the holiday season. He said this is a time when we celebrate and honor our seasoned saints for their years of service in the kingdom. But the Diamondaire event is just a small aspect of who they are. They may be seniors but they’ve got the energy of the Energizer bunny. They just keep going and going and going. While others do the same, it is the Diamondairs who consistently reach out to the absentee members, send cards to the sick, and embrace those who are discouraged. They are the unsung heroes who are a part of the very fiber of the Normandie congregation. So, when we honor them, it brings joy to me to see those happy faces, especially when Tina Turner and other top artists hit the stage. Then it all culminates with the 12 days of Christmas. I long for the day we can sing that song without a glitch but if we did, then it wouldn’t be a Diamondaire Event would it? See more

Meet Sister Stacey Jackson! Here is a small glimpse into her life and events she’s assisted on. I love sharing my Christian journey with the people that I've come to love and know at Normandie Church of Christ. While in college in Nashville, TN, I worshipped at the Schrader Lane congregation. Our minister, David Jones, advised that if I was planning to head to Los Angeles, then I should make Normandie my church home, so I took his advice seriously, and that's what I did. I...t was forty years ago that I placed my membership with this fellowship. Wow! Where did the time go. I've married and have a family that now includes grand kids, the blessings and joy that I celebrate. At NCOC, along with my family, I've worked in a few ministries such as teaching in children's worship and high school classes, served in the married couples ministry and fellowships, Church BBQ's, Diamondaires, Meals On the Go, delivering meals to our senior saints, Youth ministry as we prepared Thanksgiving baskets for those in need or just to say we're thinking of you, served in city wide youth ministry/committee as an advisor and youth counselor at State and National Youth Conferences for so long I forget just how long (a labor out of love), College counseling and seminars for high schoolers to encourage them to attend college (so important) and serve with the Women of Wisdom ministry. Always important to me has been the image and message of Christ that we represent and convey to the world via media ministry so it's one of my passions. Also singing for the shut-in with the Normandie Singers and sharing the word in song through the years with the Christianaires. I serve with the education department with Graduation, Black history, Mothers & Dads Days and New Years Eve programs. I continue to jump in wherever I am called to lend support as long as God allows. I'm just blessed! When asked what her favorite bible verse is and why, she said Romans 8:37, because yet through it all, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Thank you for all that you do, Sister Jackson. See more
