These boys.They’ve kept things interesting for sure lol! Most people remember where they were and what they were doing on this horrific day 19 yrs. ago. I was homeschooling my kids and we were getting ready to leave for L.A. on a field trip when another mom called me and told me to turn on the t.v. We stayed on the phone together watching in disbelief as the first tower burned, when another plane hit the second tower in real time. The events of the day unfolded into the most catastrophic terrorist attack in American history as far ...as loss of human life by another country. But Americans banded together, unified, helped each other pick up the pieces. We were all on the same side. We wanted to keep our country and each other safe. Today we celebrate the freedom we have and enjoy thanks to the work and sacrifice of our founding fathers and those who’ve fought with their lives for it in the past. Without those courageous, historical acts we wouldn’t be where we are today. Reposted from a friend, read on for the story that should not be re-written or erased in order to appease the offended. It’s our HISTORY as Americans, United We Stand. . On this 4th celebration day its good to be reminded of wha...t happened to those who signed the Declaration of Independence. Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Their story. . . Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants. Nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton , Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. (Continued in comments)
