On Wednesday, a few members of our team had the opportunity to see, and even test out, two different types of surgical robots at the Queen of the Valley Hospital’s Robotic Career Day presentation; the Da Vinci XI robot by Intuitive Surgical, and the Mako robot by Stryker. Both robots are used regularly by the hospital, and other hospitals around the world, to perform life-saving, minimally invasive surgeries. Hey @CollinsAerospace, @FIRST_official_ is #RedefiningFutures for our team by providing us with more opportunities than we could ever imagine, and allowing us to all become leaders in STEM fields through interesting and challenging activities that inspire us to keep working to achieve our goals. 90% of our team’s graduates so far have gone on to pursue degrees in STEM fields, such as mechanical and structural engineering. One member of our team, Yessenia Contraz, a junior and... our Manufacturing Lead, says that FIRST excites her because, I’m able to be on a team where there are a lot of common interests, and that she joined the team because she wanted to learn how to solve complex problems quickly and effectively as well as have a general understanding of the building process. Since the beginning of her membership in 2019, she has continued to grow as a team member, and even was voted into the role of Manufacturing Lead for our 2020 Competition Season. Will Harvey, a sophomore on our team and one of our two team captains and our Engineering Lead says that, I joined the robotics team at Napa to learn more about engineering, and continued in order to learn collaborative skills, public speaking, and organization. I’ve honed my skills with CAD and mechanical engineering and met a community I’m excited to be a part of. He also says that his favorite part about FIRST is the true challenge it brings students and the rewarding feeling felt when the challenges are overcome.
