IT’S #BLACKHISTORYMONTH, FAMILY!! Join NGS for the month of February, as we highlight historic voices and experiences of the African Diaspora. If there’s a Black History fact that you’d like to see posted, share it with us and we’ll make it happen! Daily updates will be posted to our IG stories [and archived in our IG highlights section]....
Please join us in celebration of Leslye D. being recognized by the Center for Volunteer and Leadership for her Community Uplift Project, Minds Over Matter, an initiative to de-stigmatize mental health services for Latinx communities. Leslye joins a list of other NGS trailblazers who have been recognized for their selfless work within our local and global communities, and we’re so proud to call her our own. During such a critical moment in world history, Next Generation Scholars continue to give back and pay it forward!
Our 7th-graders have spent the past few months working with Lynn Sondag and students on a Public Art Project that supported their exploration of themes in Angie Thomas' "The Hate U Give." Not only have our Scholars grown as students, they've honed their skills as young artists through multiple media--digital and physical. We're SUPER proud of their accomplishments and excited to see their final products displayed in San Rafael's Cultural Arts District on 4th St. Stop by after next week for a post-Thanksgiving treat!
Last week we took a look at what our high school scholars will be up to in their 2nd academic Unit. This week, we highlight what our determined middle school scholars will be learning!
Our Community Garden is looking as gorgeous as ever AND it’s growing, as Brian G., ‘22, has installed a brand new greenhouse with the support of our green thumb-wielding Marisa. So many good things come from this labor of love. We use its produce for our Hot Meals Program, as well as adding to what we have for the Food Pantry... and, next on the list: Brian G. is adding vertical potting to better utilize the space and plant even more! Battling food insecurity is a job that’s never done and our Community Garden helps us stay on the frontlines.
