"Art in the Time of Corona," is our inaugural benefit auction exhibition showcasing artwork created during and inspired by the massive social and political upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have some exciting news to share! NUMU will ring in the New Year with a NU Executive Director, Ami Davis. Ami brings 22 years of experience working in museums throughout California as an educator, curator, and fundraiser. In the coming year, the NUMU team, led by Ami will continue to focus on advancing several important and exciting initiatives now talking shape. I am so excited to work with the NUMU team to connect with the local community, and help create a place where ...we can all find comfort and inspiration, says Ami. The museum bids a fond farewell to current Director, Maureen Cappon-Javey who marked her two-year tenure by guiding the organization to a sustainable relationship with the Town of Los Gatos, amplifying donor engagement and tightening organizational systems. Maureen won’t be going too far though, as she will be joining the NUMU board to provide support and guidance. We are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 2021 ArtNow, NUMU's Annual Santa Clara County Juried Exhibition. Each new program year we are astounded by the caliber of the entries and the thoughtfulness of the artist statements. 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the ArtNow program. What’s also significant is the extraordinary backdrop against which this year's exhibition and program will play out: a global pandemic, social upheaval brought by the urgent c...all of the Black Lives Matter movement, the angst and uncertainty of a critical election year, and mounting environmental emergencies brought on by advancing climate change. Guided by a commitment to provide a thematic platform that is reflective of these times and also inspires change for a sustainably better future, we scanned this fraught and shifting panorama to choose this year’s theme: GOOD TROUBLE. This phrase and concept coined by the late John Lewis, a champion of freedom and civil rights, is the 2021 program's clarion call. Congressman Lewis calls all of us to make good and necessary trouble by showing up, standing up, and challenging ourselves and our communities to be better humans to and for all humankind. The NUMU Team and Board of Directors are looking forward to seeing all the Good Trouble this year's emerging talent can muster.
