Nevell Group Inc. (NGi) is honored to receive the WWCCA Project of the Year for UCSD Nuevo Student Housing Project This LEED Gold, Design Build project scope included; BIM, Metal Stud Framing, Lath & Plaster and Gypsum Sheathing. The size of the project along with an aggressive schedule created several challenges yet this project finished on time and with an unmatched level of quality. At its peak NGI employed over 225 trade craftsmen between all scopes to deliver this Unique and much needed project to the client. The NGI SFO T1C Team recently finished work on an oculus that is hung from the ceiling in the airport terminal. Each oculus is made up of 48 precast GFRG panels, metal stud framing, and support steel designed specifically for each location. NGi overcame challenges due to the final elevation needing to be raised by nearly 2’ and support steel was in place already. NGi overcame the challenges by modifying 32 of the 48 panels to shrink the overall size of the oculus. This proved... its challenges as the already manufactured panels are all unique and cast to form the designed shape. In some cases, this was cutting excess of 3’ horizontally out of the center of the panel and additional vertical cuts to allow us to form them together and maintain the surrounding profiles. Even more impressive NGI achieved sign off after the first walk with the owner and design team. None of this would have been possible without the help from our in-house BIM team working hand & hand with our field team and providing what was needed to make it happen. See more

A design-build, 80,000 sf 4-story pediatric medical office building. Projects such as St. Michael's Abby (Silverado, CA) do not come around very often and this project will stand out as one that challenged & pushed our team to achieve something very special! NGi used state of the art technologies to answer this challenge. NGi's scope included; Metal Framing, Gypsum Wallboard, Veneer Plaster, Spray Applied Fireproofing, Acoustical plaster, Suspended Acoustical Ceilings, Interior and Exterior Stucco along with 2,000LF of GFRC and GFRG. Long hours of coordination, cross checking and online work sessions were undoubtedly essential to the success of this effort. Congratulations to the CSULA Student Housing Team for achieving Bronze Certification. The project manager (Troy Chavez), project engineer (Thomas Bouldin), lead foreman (Adolf Franco), and foremen (Bryan Kelly) all completed 12 hours of training on Lean fundamentals and completed a rigorous Continuous Improvement Plan where they demonstrated application of the training. The team was required to utilize Last Planner System, weekly work plans, morning huddles, waste walks, an...d execution of point of use, among other things. The team celebrated the accomplishment with a socially distanced event for the crew. They brought in pizza had a raffle with lots of NGi SWAG, and gave the entire crew a t-shirt and hard hat sticker recognizing each of them as Lean team members.
