We had an incredible market this past weekend so thank you to everyone who came out! It’s really nice for our vendors and staff to have a little bit of a break in the winter but we really miss all of you in the breaks between markets. Rainy days call for cozy days at home and meals that warm our homes and our bellies. Leeks are a winter vegetable often overlooked. They’re more green in flavor than garlic or onions. They’re elegant, ombréd dark green tipped fading to their white roots. They can be an intimidating item at the market, one guessing how to use them in any meaningful way. But we suggest giving them a chance to shine because we’re sure you’ll miss them when they’re gone. Leek Recipe:... 1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a small baking dish by oiling and salting. 2. Cut off the dark green portion of the leeks as well as the roots. Peel away any rough outer leaves. Cut each leek half lengthwise. Wash thoroughly. Pat dry and lie them lengthwise in baking dish. Sprinkle generously with thyme. 3. Heat heavy cream and garlic in a small saucepan. When it comes to a running boil, remove and let sit for 5 minutes. Then pour over the leeks 4. Bake the leeks until the thickest ends are tender all the way through. Estimated time is about 35 minutes. Sprinkle with parmigiano cheese and bake for another 1-2 minutes. This recipe is paired well with roasted potatoes and carrot slaw! This year brings some new news... We are extending our market season this year. Starting May 1st, we will be on Union Street with all of our vendors. Our season will extend until the Saturday before Christmas so that you can continue having access to local food and goods throughout the holidays. We are so excited to be able to offer a longer season for all of you! Antonio, formerly from Riverhill Farm, has begun his new farm venture over at @feedingcranefarm We are so exci...ted for his move and wish him all the luck with this new endeavor. You can find @feedingcranefarm at all of our upcoming winter markets and the summer/fall 2021 market season. @sunrockfarm_nc has joined the Instagram so now you can follow along their farming journey. Jeff has been a longtime staple at our markets and we’re excited to welcome him to the gram! If you’re interested in being a potential vendor, our application will be live on Wednesday, January 6th. Please read through our requirements prior to sending an application in. Last but not least, we’ll be offering internships for our summer/fall season.
