The basics after a San Francisco arrival - Supermarkets. Welcome to San Francisco! Now that you have arrived it’s time to get the basics sorted. One of the key basics is finding your best healthy local supermarket. While dining out is nice it get’s old fast and is typically unhealthy. Supermarket brands are different regionally so you may not be familiar with the ones here. ... Getting around Since San Francisco is highly urban you may need to use a taxi or uber from the market. There are few local markets so you may need to travel further than your walking preference. We don’t recommend using the mass transit options for shopping. The best markets Safeway - Safeway has several locations in San Francisco. The largest location is on 4th Street and King Street. There is also a convenient free 2 hour parking lot inside the building. Wholefoods - Wholefoods has several locations but the most central is on 4th Street and Harrison Street. There is also a location on California Street in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Trader Joe’s - Trader Joe’s is one of the more reasonable markets in San Francisco. They have several locations including a new downtown market on 4th Street and Market Street. There is also a location on California Street in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Costco - Costco is located on 10th Street and Bryant. The grocery section if you are stocking up is worth the trip over. Target - Target has a limited grocery section in their Sansome Street location and a larger grocery section at 4th Street and Mission Street.
