New Directions for Veterans

This week on #StaffSunday, I’d love to introduce myself! My name is Tammy, and I’m very grateful to now be in sunny SoCal after growing up in the much colder New York winters. I’m the Marketing & Communications Specialist here at NDVets, which includes managing our social media, media and community outreach, and our volunteer program. As we come to the end of #BlackHistoryMonth, we want to remind everyone to continue supporting our black community throughout the year. This disproportionality of homelessness is a result of systemic inequity: the lingering effects of racism continue to perpetuate disparities in critical areas that impact homelessness rates.

It's a big birthday week for the veterans at NDVets! Please wish Michael, a former US Marine, a very happy birthday! He is in our Low Demand program, and despite the pandemic, has maintained his workouts. Kudos to Michael!

Did you know that our FSP program is one of the few entities exclusively serving homeless veterans in LA County? Our clinicians are trained to incorporate Evidence-Based Practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and more to help veterans process their trauma after returning to civilian life.

Please join us in wishing Walters, an Army vet, a very happy birthday! He's currently in our Low Demand program, and in his free time loves spending time in nature and with his grandson

Today we celebrate the grand opening of our newest addition to NDVets permanent supportive housing portfolio. The beautiful Baldwin & Rose Apartments, located in El Monte, now houses and provides wraparound services, for 54 formally homeless veterans and their families!! Congratulations to veterans and welcome HOME!

VA partners with OnStar to bring suicide prevention services to Veterans with the push of a button. The VA-OnStar partnership aims to promote suicide prevention and reduce deaths by suicide by providing additional resources to Veterans, said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. In early July, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center became the first VA facility to participate in an international clinical trial evaluating the therapeutic benefit of an immunomodulator drug, Tocilizumab (TCZ), as a treatment for Veterans with COVID-19 severe pneumonia.
