The CAL FIRE Humboldt-Del Norte Unit Transitioned out of Peak Fire Season on Dec. 21, so CAL FIRE LE-5 burn permits are no longer additionally required for those who hold Non-Standard burn permits in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Western Trinity County.

UPDATED Air Quality PSA for Monday, Nov. 2, 2020. Minimal wildfire smoke from the Red Salmon Complex still affecting Northern Humboldt primarily near Orleans and localized river drainages. Prescribed burning activities in that area will occur this week before the pending wet weather.

Overall, another pretty smoke-free day in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity County. Although the satellite view looks clear, Hoopa and Willow Creek have still had Moderate air quality conditions for the last few hours, and Orleans has even had periods of Unhealthy conditions.

Moderately strong N-NE and E transport winds during the latter half of the week. In addition to the District's daily 24hr AQI forecasts, current air quality can be seen using the EPA's Fire & Smoke Map page (fire.airnow.gov). This website shows District monitors, deployed portable monitors during wildfires, and sensor data (with the US-wide EPA-approved correction factor applied to PurpleAir sensors). Here is also a current satellite image from GOES-West.
