Getting an ear piercing obviously doesn’t seem like trauma, but sometimes your skin sees it that, why which is why you can form a keloid. Keloids are overgrowths of scar tissue caused by skin trauma. As wounds heal, fibrous scar tissue starts to replace old skin tissue and sometimes your body makes too much scar tissue, leading to keloids. This extra tissue starts to spread out from the original wound, causing a bump or small mass that’s larger than the original piercing. W...hile there are some non-surgical removal options for keloids, surgery is often your best bet, especially if you don’t want them returning. @drsheilanazarian can remove them in office, under local anesthetic in less than an hour!
