Hello and Happy Holidays Everyone! First off, we at Natomas Vet would like thank ALL of our wonderful clients for not only entrusting us with your pets care, but also giving us such DELICIOUS treats during the holiday season. We are having such a good time eating everything!! We hope you have a wonderful holiday season. For today’s staff pet highlight we have our inseparable duo with our fellow technician Melissa, and her best friend Azula! Melissa is extremely hardworking,... and one of our most compassionate workers here at Natomas Vet Hospital. She is always giving our clients the best care (and most fashionable haircuts around). Melissa hopes to go on to vet school and continue to give animals the care they deserve. Azula is a shining example of a beautiful husky. She is 5 years old (but doesn’t act like it), and loves to go everywhere mom goes! This includes hiking trips where she can pretend to be the wolf she thinks she is. One of the cutest things she does according to mom is mimicking Melissa’s EXACT yawn every morning. However, Azula can make life a little difficult with the amount of shedding and can be a little embarrassing with the way she walks right up to you and introduces herself! Azula is incredibly expressive, protective, intelligent, playful, and shares a bond with mom like no other. See more

One of the ways to help is learning more about wildlife conservation, spreading the word about the importance of protecting our plane’ts most endangered species and the impact of... poaching on our environment. Attention!!! As of today, it is confirmed through PCR testing--3 individual cases of Canine Flu were caught at two separate clinics in the Sacramento area. One in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, two in the Folsom/Rancho Cordova area. These dogs appeared to have come from a similar environment or social setting. One dog presented with severe upper respiratory infection (heavy nasal discharge, severe cough). Now is the best time to start having these conversations with your doctors and schedule your pet for the vaccine! 4th of July can be one of the busiest boarding times of the year, and is right around the corner.

PSA: Recently, there has been at least 2 confirmed H3N2 positive cases at the Oakland Animal Services Shelter, so it is important to think about either updating, or possibly starting the flu vaccine for your pet! Symptoms of the Canine influenza virus can include coughing, fever, lethargy and pneumonia. This virus can be highly contagious, so beware as you are making family vacation plans and are possibly boarding your pet . Hello All! For our next staff/pet highlight we have one of our technicians named Beth, and her kitty companion Davy! You may know Beth as one of our most bright, helpful, and compassionate employees here at Natomas Vet that can make you smile or laugh any time of day. Recently, Beth was also accepted to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. We are so proud of her and will miss her dearly! Davy has quite the story to tell! He is 2 years old now, but was rescued as a kitten ...by one of our caring clients that could tell he needed extra help due to his eye trauma. Davy soon had his enucleation surgery to prevent any potential sarcoma risks, and has recovered fabulously since then! He may only have one eye now, but that doesn’t stop him from getting into trouble. He loves playing tag with his parents, licking things off of dishes, doing tricks and breaking into food containers. And even though Davy is always on the run, nothing is better than snuggles with mom. See more

Happy Monday Everyone! Get to know our staff and their pets, maybe you will find something in common with your companion! To start off, we have Dr. Cheng whom you may know as one of the most passionate, hardworking and caring doctors you will ever meet! In her spare time she likes to travel, watch basketball, sing with her church choir, and enjoy life with her husband and their three cats and their dog P-Done. P-Done is a 3.5 year old German Shepherd mix, who was rescued by one of our technicians at just 5 weeks old! Although he has some stranger danger to work on, P-done is such a sweet mellow guy once he gets to know you! P-done means literally "duck egg", but is an endearment term for naughty in Chinese. And finally, Mr. P-done loves playing with his canine companions and chasing his tennis ball and loves following a laser pointer!

Indoor cats don’t receive the natural exercise that cats who live outdoors obtain. So, in addition to the mental doldrums in which cats may find themselves, they don’t burn calories. A cat wheel can be a great way to get your best friend to slim down while having fun
