Our team is taking a well-deserved break. We will reopen on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021. Until then, happy holidays and best wishes for the new year from our entire team.

We still have Stollen available for walk-ups today and on Wednesday 12/23. This is it for this winter, come get ‘em before their gone again until next December.

This is not a drill. Our webstore closes at noon today. Next week, we will be open for pre-order pick up and walk-up customers on Wednesday 12/23. Thursday 12/24, we will be open for pre-order pick-up only!... Then our team will go on our annual break from 12/25 until 1/5.

2020 is certainly a taxing year, but we are thankful that we can continue baking for you, that we were able to keep our team gainfully employed, had the chance to support and stand up for causes we believe in, and that we could welcome our little bun to the family. Our team’s love for their craft, their motivation, positive outlook, and creativity inspires us every day. All while each and every one of them navigates their very own pandemic induced challenges. You don’t work i...n this industry just for the paycheck, especially during the holidays (it can get intense)... you do it because you are passionate about what you do and want to share it with the people around you. And of course we are thankful for our local community. Thank you for your patience, even when the line is long, for your kindness, for letting us be part of your holiday celebration, and for supporting a small family business. We truly never take it for granted! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Meet Marla Luise, the youngest member of our Backhaus family! Three weeks ago today, the arrival of this little bun officially turned us into a mom-and-pop shop. Robert and I are absolutely smitten with her and beyond grateful to our amazing team for keeping the bakery running smoothly while we have been taking a little break.

SOLD OUT! A big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who came out to the shop and the market today. You guys completely cleared us out... we’ll be back tomorrow at our shop with more bread and pastries for you. Thank you for the love and support! We are still open until 4 p.m. for coffee and pre-order pick-ups.

This helps us create a more sustainable schedule for our team, keep both our staff and our customers safer, and minimize lines and wait time as much as possible. Our wonderful front of house staff wanted to contribute to our @bakersagainstracism bake sale tomorrow, too, so @damnnitangie came up with a delicious recipe for Mexican hot chocolate that will be available tomorrow only (you can also try it as a mocha). Don’t miss out! All proceeds from these drinks will also be donated to the @naacp_ldf

Here we go, @bakersagainstracism bake sale pre-orders are live on our website. All orders are for pick-up this Saturday, June 20th. I am so proud of and inspired by our team, who jumped at the chance of creating some unique and delicious treats for you of you to enjoy. We’ll be joining forces with thousands of professionals and home bakers worldwide for a bake sale on June 20th benefiting charities that support racial equality and combat racism. Our team will be making a limited amount of special items inspired by some of our bakers’ own cultural backgrounds. Stay tuned for more info on what goodies we’ll have available. Last week our friends @kenjilopezalt and @adrilopo offered to make matching donations to the @naacp_ldf for donations made to any non-profit pro-black, pro-equality organization. Several other folks stepped up and offered to match donations as well. Since then we’ve received proof of over 2,000 individual donations totaling $238,260.90, with matching donations of $46,400, bringing the grand total to $284,660.90 (and counting, with more emails from you all coming in). There a...re over a hundred of local and national organizations that have received funds already, including $83,524 to the @naacp_ldf, $19,191 to @blklivesmatter, $12,454 to @naacp, $9,849 to the @aclu_nationwide, and $9,849 to the @mnfreedomfund. If you would like to step up to match some of the remaining $191,860.90 that was donated in excess of our matching funding, please email [email protected] and let us know. It’s understandable that many of us feel helpless and don’t know what to do, but there are people and organizations who are already hard at work and need our support: The fight for justice needs to happen on multiple fronts, both in immediate aid, and long-term institutional solutions. If you make a donation to any pro-POC, pro-justice non-profit or charity, Robert and I will make a matching donation to the @naacp_ldf (up to $5k total). Our friend Kenji @kenjilopezalt as well... as two other generous donors will also be matching donations, which means that we will match your contributions to a pro-POC non-profit organization up to a total of $20k. All you have to do is make a donation of any size and send the receipt to [email protected] and we will take it from there.
