THIS SATURDAY! Mindful Veteran Project!

My 29for2021 I decided to play 29 holes of golf in honor of the 29for2021 fund raiser for NAVA. On Tuesday, January 26, 2021 I went to the Bell Gardens Golf Course; 8000 Park Lane, Bell Gardens, CA 90201. This is a 9 Hole, Par 3 course. My goal was to play 3 rounds, plus two additional holes on the fourth round to complete the 29 needed. At the beginning of each hole I read the name of the MOH recipient and a short note on how he had earned the medal. And dedicated the hole t...o him. I played 2 rounds on the first day; 1/26/2021 and dedicated MOH Recipients 1 thru 18. I went back on Thursday; 1/28/2021 and played rounds 3 and 4. Round 3 was dedicated to MOH Recipients 19 thru 27 and the first two holes of Round 4 were dedicated to MOH Recipients 28 and 29. I would say that this was a very enlightening experience and brought into focus the significance of the Medal of Honor and it’s Recipients. Although the other players with me did not participate in the 29for2021 fundraiser they were respectful and attentive. This was a very educational experience for me in that it highlighted the dedication and sacrifice service men and women give in order to preserve our way of life. See more

I love these cool October mornings. It feels great to walk around on wood floors in my bear feet. Looking at it now, I think I need a pedicure.

Another way to look at this is Attitude is Everything. Life is not perfect, and we should be prepared to take the good with the bad. As you go through life good things and bad things will happen. You may get a new job, a raise in pay or some other form of blessing. Also, you may be in a car accident, you may lose your cell phone, keys or money. And it may at times feel like cosmic forces are working against you.... But what many fail to realize is that your response to the circumstances around you will decide how your life is changed by them. One truth in life is that your outlook; be it Positive or Negative will have a great impact on how you see things. There are those who go along in life and just seem to be hammered by things and bad things happen to them all the time. And there are others that seem to be Happy go Lucky and nothing bad ever happens to them. I know my choice, but think of which of these two you groups would rather be in? Do this for yourself, think about the last time something really good happened to you. How did you react to it? Now think about something bad that happened and your reaction. It took me some time myself, but when something bad happens I try to look at it for what it’s worth. I didn’t get the job I wanted; I try to accept that it wasn’t meant to be my job. God, or my Higher Power has another plan for me. When this happens I usually end up with a job that is a better fit for me. As you go through your week, look to be of service to others and do things you can be proud of. Begin to take steps toward building the life you envision for yourself. Be humble and appreciative of even the smallest things. If you’re good to yourself and to others good things will happen to you. Be safe and feel free to share this with others if it has helped you.

At California Native Vote Project, we want our youth to be informed and uplifted during this year’s general election on November 3, 2020! Native youth leaders in Northern California and our very own CNVP Community Organizer, Calvin Hedrick, created this encouraging video to inform young people about the importance of the Native vote, when the last day to register to vote is, and how easy it is! Watch the short video and share with your networks, so our youth and community mem...bers are informed about the voting registration deadline. We are facing the election of a lifetime and we want our Native youth and community to be well informed about their voting options. Join me in making our Native youth voices heard this election season by sharing this short video created by our Native youth leaders. One thing that most people fail to realize is that life is about growth. The most obvious is growth from birth through adulthood, physical growth. But there's also personal growth; charachter, honor, confidence, self-assuradeness and discipline. As Veterans we know too well about these things. We learn a lot more from adversity than we do from any other method and those lessons will follow most of us throughout our lives. One thing to remember is to always strive to move forw...ard in a positive way. Even if you get sidetracked or even lost on your journey it's important to remember that this is YOUR JOURNEY. Life is a marathon and not a sprint. Set good goals, be humble, thankful and geel as blessed as you should be. Take an occasional inventory on your life; am I where I want to be at this point? What are my goals? Have my goals changed? And if so, why? It's ok to change your goals as your needs and wants change. But doing this occasional inventory will help you to stay focused and moving toward your goals. Have a great week, be safe and be true to yourself. Be blessed. See more

A Veteran was about to tee off when he saw a funeral procession passing the golf course. He came to attention and saluted. Holding his salute until the procession passed and then resumed his game. His golf partner said, "That was a touching sign of respect." The Veteran replied, it's the least I could do for 27 years of marriage. Enjoy your week. Be safe and blessed.

Happy FRIDAY! You've all heard of the Air Force's ultra-high-security, super-secret base in Nevada, known simply as "Area 51?" Well, late one afternoon, the Air Force folks out at Area 51 were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room. The pilot's story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the Base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Forc...e started a full FBI background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation. By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a heading, and sent him on his way. The day after that though, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane... Only this time there were two people in the plane. The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!" See more
