This week 2 probationary firefighters finished their year long probation. Firefighter Chris Gonzalez and Firefighter/Paramedic Justin Rainwater were presented with their badges. Each badge has a unique number assigned to each member in NFD history, going back to 1906. Badge #1 was the original NFD fire chief Charles Otterson. Their academy mate Tyler Dombrowski took the opportunity to upgrade to FF/PM and will finish his probation in April. Congrats to Justin and Chris on successfully completing probation, your hard work has paid off and we look forward to seeing you progress in your career as a Napa Fire firefighter.
Today is the start of academy 21-1. We welcome 3 new recruits to the NFD family. In the academy we have 2 firefighters and 1 firefighter/paramedic who begin their one year probation today. Throughout this year they will face countless tests and participate in endless training to make sure they are capable of the high level service the citizens of Napa expect from their fire department. After a competitive hiring process we are confident that we have found three new members who will live up to that standard. The new recruits are probationary FF/PM Felix Barba, probationary FF Scott Beckler, and probationary FF Nic Pruett. Good luck to our new recruits and welcome to the Napa Fire family.
At 3am on Thursday C shift crews responded to a reported structure fire on Linda Vista. When the first due engine arrived they determined the fire was not on Linda Vista but a street to the east. Crews arrived at the fire scene on Norfolk to find a single family residence with heavy smoke and fire showing with an immediate exposure threat to the neighboring house on the Bravo side. With the help of @calfire_napacountyfire the fire did not extend to the Bravo exposure and the fire was contained to a single residence. The house was unoccupied at the time but sustained heavy fire damage. No injuries were reported. #napavalley #napa #napacity #californiafirefighter #bayareafirefighter #structurefire
Public Service Announcement! Did you know that all batteries (rechargeable or otherwise) need to be disposed of in a special way? Batteries cannot be put into your normal trash for many reasons, with one being their propensity of starting fires in our waste facilities. Luckily for Napa residents, we have many options for properly disposing batteries. See the photos for more info!

*STRUCTURE FIRE* A residential structure fire in the area of South Minahan and Arthur street has been contained by fire crews. Please be aware of apparatus and road closures as crews continue to remain on scene cleaning up and putting out hot spots. ... The fire is under investigation at this time.
Napa County has received its first shipments of COVID-19 vaccines and the NFD has begun vaccinations as part of the first tier (first responders). There is light at the end of the tunnel but please don’t stop wearing your mask, socially distancing, or washing your hands/face. We aren’t out of this yet!
