Happy National Chocolate Cupcake Day! (Yes, it's a thing) It's also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know Breastfeeding can reduce your risks of getting breast cancer? One reason may be that when a woman is breastfeeding, she experiences hormonal changes that may delay the return of her menstrual periods. This reduces her lifetime exposure to hormones such as estrogen, which are linked to an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers. https://blogs.cdc.gov//breast...feeding-for-cancer-prevention/ making milk 24/7 limits breast cells' ability to misbehave https://www.breastcancer.org/risk/factors/breastfeed_hist Credit for photo: https://www.inquirer.com//breast-cancer-awareness-cupcake-
BIG Announcement
Love this on so many levels. Amber Fletcher Photography
Tell us, where do you feed your baby? Share your photos, you may be the inspiration for another family.
Apparently I've done a lot of weird and inappropriate things during my life. At least that is, or hopefully now WAS, the opinion of this instructor. ....On the same day, Mares said, the instructor announced during class that he received a "weird" email from a student who wanted to do some "inappropriate" things during class.
Reposted from @az.breastfedbabies I found my middle daughter’s baby book and this is what I wrote when she was a baby. She breastfeeds every 2-3 hours. She’s such a good sleeper. ... This was almost 20 years ago. Before sleep trainers were a thing. There were a few books like Baby Wise but my midwife had told me that the more I breastfed, the more milk I would make. My midwife also told me that going more than 6 hours without breastfeeding could decrease my supply so I knew that scheduling feeds was not for me. It made sense to me that if my goal was to get my baby to sleep through the night I could be sacrificing breastfeeding. It’s all about expectations. Now mothers are bombarded with marketing and messages that long sleep stretches are the most important thing. They are told that a baby’s brain will not develop if they don’t have long, deep, sleep stretches. The truth is, babies are wired to have active, lighter sleep cycles. There is research that shows that the lighter REM cycles helps brain development because the brain doesn’t rest during REM sleep. The blood flow is nearly double during the REM cycle. The body increases it production of certain nerve fibers, which are the building blocks of the brain. Learning is thought to occur during the active REM cycle of sleep. Premature babies spend approximately 90% of their sleep time in REM to accelerate their brain growth. Babies are supposed to wake often to eat. Babies are not supposed to have long stretches of deep sleep. Even though my baby was waking to eat every 2-3 hours, I labeled her a good sleeper because I knew it was normal and I also knew that it was a season. It certainly didn’t last forever. #nosleeptraining #breastfedbabies #azbreastfedbabies #ibclc #breastsleeping #newbornsleep #theyareonlylittleforalittlewhile

Shondra broke down Mastitis like no one else! So much info about this nasty pest that can creep in. My first experience with Mastitis was about 1 week postpartum with my second child in 1985. I thought I was dying! I so wish I knew then what I know now. If you're struggling with any breastfeeding issues, reach out....I'm here for you.
THIS! This is why it is so hard to be in the IBCLC business. Especially right now. I'm not in network with any insurance companies so any client that sees me pays out of pocket. By law, they should be able to be reimbursed. The reality is few are. This is wrong on so many levels. (Edited to add....my fees are lower than what is mentioned in the article)

Could not have said it better myself. I have a love/hate relationship with these little silicone gadgets. What was your experience? Were you #1, #2 or #3. Or perhaps something else.
