What is ringing in the ears or Tinnitus? According to Harvard Medical School's picture here the way it happens is: Sound waves travel through the ear canal to the middle and inner ear, where hair cells in part of the cochlea help transform sound waves into electrical signals that then travel to the brain's auditory cortex. When hair cells are damaged by loud noise or ototoxic drugs (those drugs that have a toxic effect on the ear or its nerve supply), for example the circuits in the brain don't receive the signals they're expecting. This stimulates abnormal activity in the neurons, which results in the illusion of sound, or tinnitus.

The staff and volunteers at Modesto Sound are passionate about the programs and know that healthy programs for youth are of the utmost importance. Youth attend because they want to learn how to record a band, to be able to set up a stage for a concert and interact with bands. Modesto Sound has a recording studio open to all ages. It also offers live sound services while providing job training to youth. Modesto Sound has recorded over 625 artists, trained over 212 youth on audio and job skills, held hundreds of concerts, recorded over 215 radio shows & counting!!!, and recorded thousands of public service announcements. Each summer a music day camp is offered where attendees ages 8-17 years old write, record and perform original songs.
