We’d like to take a moment to honor all the women who have been significant in the formative years of others. As moms in a more traditional sense ourselves (Jo Ann to a 17 yo son and Susan to a 22 yo enbylove ya both! ), we’re here to acknowledge the war and the peace...the pride and the prejudice...the sound and the fury...that are all dimensions of these deeply complex relationships. Because there’s truly no one way to characterize the many versions of motherhood, today... we thought we’d offer our version of metta (loving-kindness) meditationa little mantra for you to use, care for and share from a space of non judgement. May you be peaceful and free from suffering. May no harm come to you; May no problems come to you; May no difficulties come to you. LONG POST ALERT! We've done a lot of pivoting during the pandemic. Back in March, the question was, Ok so, NOW what do when teaching isn’t the best thing for the health of our community? Luckily, we had time and an entire beautiful studio space to reconnect with what inspired us to go into business in the first place: A deep love of working with clay. Ceramics makes us grow stronger. The realization that earth, water, fire and air are all you need to build functional pie...ces and create art is empowering, BUT putting our own work out for you is scary! Especially after previously focusing mostly on teaching and during an already vulnerable time. But hey, you sure know how to show up, San Diego! From empathetic landlords to small businesses eager to collaborate; plant lovers to pet parents; mug collectors to Sake sippers--you’ve embraced other ways to support Mud Lily, patiently waiting for pottery classes and date nights to get back our the calendar while we push forward to brighter days together. Instead of the perfectly round bowl or exquisitely crafted piece of porcelain, we’ve connected over humble hunks of mud that with our luck ended up stoneware and with your grace and vision found just-right places in your home and in your hands.Thank you for sharing our love of the clay with us in these ways. We hope this connection we’re sharing continues into the new year. While we are closed for classes and workshops, we will keep making more pottery for you to come enjoy. Also in 2021: We want to meet more neighboring businesses owners; please come say hello! We seek new collaborations and commissioned projects; DM us or tag somebody you know who might like to partner up. And we are committed to helping our community gain a leg up on Coronavirus.
