Yesterday's "Fun With Music History" was packed with music and information - Ragtime, Jazz, Rock, Pop - Whew! So much info and so much fun - Thank you to my am...azing husband, Mark Sudock, who gave a presentation to our students about the "Great American Songbook", Big Bands, Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald. It's so much fun sharing the joy of music and putting it into historical context. Next week is our the culmination of our class - The Fun With Music History Game Show! Fun with Music History, Week 7 - Impressionism vs. Expressionism - What wonderful, expressive students. Today my students learned the difference between impres...sionism and expressionism in music. Debussy, Ravel, Dukas vs. Schoenberg, Scriabin, Stravinsky, Bartok. We talked about feelings and the students created original artwork expressing their emotions to the music of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" (expressionism) and Debussy's "Afternoon of a Fawn" (Impressionism.) Next week the history of jazz, rock, and pop! The entire series of classes was brought to the students free of charge through Musique Sur La Mer Orchestras and Academy of Music with gratitude to the grant from the RuMBa Foundation. See more

Ta da - Our "Fun With Music History" class was awesome today. Today we enjoyed the Romantic Period of Music and surprised the students with our Quiz Game Show ...from the Dark Ages through the Romantic Period of Music! They have learned sooooooo much. Congratulations to Long Beach students, Andrew and Emily - our game show winners. They will be receiving their prize via Amazon within the next couple of days. Thank you to the RuMBa Foundation Grant for making it possible for Musique Sur La Mer Orchestras and Academy of Music to offer this and other classes free of charge to our local students. The world is filled with chaos. We can conduct our lives with focus, meaning, purpose, grace, and beauty. Today I gave our granddaughter her first real violin lesson. Note her focus and closing her eyes in sheer bliss. Life goes on. There is hope.

The Tennessee Waltz performed in honor of our dear friend and colleague, Hannah Skupen of Blessed Memory. This video was created in tribute to Hannah and perfo...rmed by all of us with JT & Friends. Note the young man, Steven Gordon, age 11, performing on Hannah's beloved violin. Steven is my violin student, a member of Musique Sur La Mer Youth Orchestras, and the proud owner of Hannah's violin. Her legacy lives on. We love you Hannah and we miss you. <3 See more

My wonderful violin student, Steven Gordon, age 11, created and performed both the violin solo AND piano accompaniment on this amazing video- Czardas by Monti! Bravo, Steven and bravo to his great parents, Richard and Stephanie Gordon, who love, support, encourage, and enable their son to fulfill his musical aspirations. Their loving and gentle approach allows their children to flourish. I love teaching! Steven is one of the youngest members of the Musique Sur La Mer Honor String Orchestra and Musique Sur La Mer Youth Symphony Orchestra.
