Our classes are getting ready to launch their first unit on Changemaking! As a Changemaker school, we are passionate about using our skills and knowledge to make the world a better place. Changemaking is at the heart of our school. We begin each school year with a deep-dive into changemaking through project-based learning. Our core curriculum throughout the year is grounded in empathy, understanding, and social justice, with many opportunities for students to authentically e...ngage in changemaking. At Mountain View, students have personally relevant opportunities to identify and develop solutions for real-world problems through student activism, hands-on projects, and community partnerships. Our graduates enter high school prepared to think critically, work with diverse groups of people, understand complex social issues, and use their talents and passions to make a positive difference in the world.

Mountain View teachers are busy planning virtual learning experiences that support our core learning outcomes for our students. Our students (and staff!) are changemakers who are lifelong learners, contributing community members, and empathic humans with a deep connection to purpose. Dear Mountain View Families, As you may be aware, the district recently announced that we will not be physically returning to school sites when the new school year begins on August 31st, due to health and safety concerns from the continued spread of Covid-19. The district will continue working with medical professionals to plan for the safe physical reopening of schools. None of us could have predicted that we would be starting the first year of our pilot school online, but ...please know that we are absolutely committed to providing the best educational experience possible for your children. Teachers have been spending their summer vacation planning for the upcoming year, and they’re working hard to create engaging, learner-centered distance learning experiences. We understand that distance learning is challenging for many of us (staff, students, and family members alike!) and will need to continue working together to find creative solutions to ensure the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students are met during this time. We love and miss our students, and are ready to do whatever it takes to make sure we all have a safe, successful 20-21 school year. Dear Families, We did it! The Board voted this evening to approve us as a pilot school, so we are now officially San Diego Unified’s first Pilot School! We are immensely grateful for your support this year. We know it hasn’t been easy, and in order to get to where we are today, every single person in our community stepped up to support our school. We have overcome unbelievable obstacles, and this vote was a testament to the resilience and persistence of our powerful community.... This is what true changemaking looks like!
