It’s hard to deny how wonderful a dose of false-spring feels in the midst of January. We spend all winter chasing the sun and then here it is, warming us from our toes to the tips of our chins. Still, weather like this has us crossing our fingers that the many inches of rain our region so desperately needs are on their way sooner rather than later. Rain to water our fields, to fill rivers and reservoirs, security against a dry season that is never all that far away. And so we wait, soaking up the warmth and listening to the frogs sing from roadside and field. Enjoy your boxes this week - full of edible sunshine for the days ahead!

This past week, we planted 1500 tomato seeds and dreamed about tomato sandwiches and the heat of summer. With the help of some supplemental light, heat, and a little bit of luck, these very first tomato plants will be ready to transplant into one of our hoophouses by mid-February, putting us well on our way to early summer tomatoes. Winter is certainly where many dreams are born in farming, when time and potential energy are at their peak and the promise of a new season stret...ches out before us. A slower pace, sometimes (but not always) at the mercy of winter weather, also means an opportunity to complete projects and carry out new ideas, whether that means fixing fences, building owl boxes, or repairing tractors. It’s easy to live with one foot in the future, and we do our best to balance out all that reckless idealism with a slightly more restful state of mind, the hallmark of our particular brand of seasonal work. We’ll be juggling the demands of the main season and harvesting truckloads of tomatoes before we know it! Here’s hoping this week finds you all happy, nourished, and well rested. See more

After a little rest, the Mountain Bounty Farm crew is back in the field, excited for 2021 and all of the unique challenges and experiences this season is bound to hold. Thank you for bringing us into your lives, homes, and kitchens, and allowing us the great honor of growing your produce! There’s so much goodness in store and we cannot wait to share it all with you.

This year, we’re adapting our model to a year-round CSA and retiring the use of seasons. With the help of new flexible subscription types, we’ve been able to make this transition pretty smoothly (thanks for sticking with us!!) For the winter, we’re fortunate to partner with other farms to help supply the bounty, including Coke Farm, Terra Firma Farm, Pinnacle and Full Belly Farm this week. We love being able to offer a year-round supply of vegetables to our community and hope you enjoy!
