The so called "California exodus" during the pandemic is mostly hype. Most of Bay Area residents who moved in March-November 2020 went to other places in the Bay Area or elsewhere in California. California/the Bay Area is still the place to be. Here is a great article by Natalie Holmes, a Research Fellow at the California Policy lab discussing the data points showing people are staying in California and the exodus is not as bad as it seems.
