Terrible news today, Larry Saarloos passed after a horse accident roughly a week ago. He was engaged in his community, thoughtful, and welcoming. He was a good man, proud of what the next generation of his family was doing. I got to know him through the Santa Barbara County wine business, and the Rancheros Visitadores, and looked forward to seeing him through both. I will miss his friendship. Rest peacefully Larry.

His story can be traced back to seven generations of farming and ranching in the Santa Maria Valley. Ontiveros creates wines inspired by the old-world and are genuine, honest and authentic. His wines are organically farmed, minimally irrigated, hand-harvested and uses whole cluster fermentation. At their core, his wines are a testament to the terroir and unique site of his estate vineyards. Ontiveros will be speaking as a panelist in our Discovering the New World of Pinot Noir seminar, led by Elaine Chukan Brown, on Friday, March 1.
