I’ve been working on some new mixed media paintings. I started with some pictures of birds that my mother had collected. I experimented with multiple ways of printing and then painting. I am now calling the series because I intend to do moreBird pictures. I’m calling it the thing with feathers. I just brought back from Kansas my mother’s (Pat Potucek) picture file cabinet. It’s full of clippings and old calendars and photographs that she used in her paintings and murals. In this time of crazy change I have a nostalgic interest in these idealized americana images. I plan to scan and overpaint to work with some of this. I’ll see how it goes. I hope I have my mothers blessing. She loved horses and clothes hanging on the line and children peeking through fences, flowers..., vegetables, farm scenes, farmers so much more.
