1ST ANNUAL COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS FAIR A HUGE SUCCESS FOR MONTEBELLO UNIFIED! Over 1,500 students, parents and community members attended Montebello Unified’s 1st Annual Your Future, Your Choice College and Career Readiness Fair this past Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Schurr High School. This inaugural College Fair hosted nearly 30 colleges, 17 workshops, and featured special guest speaker Mr. Johnathan Franklin of the LA Rams. All MUSD schools showcased and highli...ghted special programs offered throughout the District. In addition, The Friends of the Montebello Unified School District Foundation (FMUSD) raised and distributed nearly $20,000 in scholarships for students. Everyone who attended this great event had the opportunity to speak directly with college representatives, find out about financial resources to help pay for college, and explore different career technical education opportunities. Parents and students also learned about the many options the State of California has to offer our undocumented students. This College and Career Readiness Fair affirms Montebello Unified’s commitment to establishing a college going culture that helps all students prepare for their future.

STATEMENT FROM THE MONTEBELLO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION IN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP'S DECISION TO END THE DACA PROGRAM The Board of Education of the Montebello Unified School District (MUSD) strongly opposes President Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program implemented by President Obama in 2012. DACA provided temporary immigration relief to more than 800,000 students, many of whom were brought to the United Stat...es as children and who have loved and called no other country home. DACA students have pursued a quality education in our colleges and universities, sought gainful employment, taught in our public schools, paid taxes, contributed to our economy and abided by our laws. The time, energy, and money that has been invested into these students would be a huge economic loss in terms of resources lost and in contributions they could be making to our communities. Ending DACA means families will be torn apart, our economy will suffer, enterprising students in our colleges and universities will face biased uncertainty about their future and our state will suffer a major setback from meeting the demands for a more educated workforce to compete in a world economy. MUSD urges Congress to find a remedy to ensure this deserving group of young leaders can continue to make positive contributions to the place they call home. In the interim, however, we’d like to remind California residents that AB540 remains in place and DACA students can still attain a college degree. The California Dream Act will continue to provide undocumented students monetary assistance to pay for college tuition. Also, SB60 provides students with the opportunity to drive legally and safely. And, SB1169 gives students the opportunity to obtain a professional license from 40 licensing boards regardless of immigration status. Finally, MUSD is here to serve its students, parents and extended family. Our doors remain open to address any concerns they may have regarding the impact of DACA, and any subsequent legislation impacting our students.
