Reflexology, massage, acupuncture, and acupressure can all be somewhat polarizing. Some of us swear by touch therapies for pain- or stress-relief, while others think they’re a little wacky and refuse to try them. If you fall into the latter of these categories, it’s time to step outside your comfort zone and explore the bountiful benefits of touch therapy. Touch therapies such as acupuncture and massage date back thousands of years to Chinese and Egyptian cultures, when heale...rs used these methods to treat everything from anger to injury. Today, only a small portion of the population (in the United States, at least) routinely practices acupuncture or reflexive massage, mostly due to the rise of modern (Western) medicine. A full study of touch therapy would take years (and not everyone is ready to try full-scale acupuncture) so let’s take a quick look at a few of the most commonly accepted pressure points and how they can help us with our own everyday ailments: Between your thumb and index finger. Touted for lessening pain due to headaches, earaches, and toothaches, applying light pressure or massage to this area can be beneficial in many ways. Your wrist. Measure three finger-widths down from your wrist (with palm facing up) and apply pressure with your thumb where the last finger lands. This one is good for anxiety, stress, and nausea. Where your elbow bends. Bend your arm at a 90-degree angle and massage the inside of the crease where your upper-arm and forearm meet. This pressure point is said to relieve gas, bloating, and other digestive issues. Where your hand meets your wrist (in line with your pinky on the palm-side). Press firmly (or massage) here if you’re having trouble falling asleep as this one is good for insomnia. Sonic Boom

Please setup an appointment with our Naturopathic practitioner to evaluate and find your exact dosage and brand of fish-oil. The first 15 minute consultation is free. Omega 3s:... Feelin’ fishy? Fish oil is one of the most commonly consumed dietary supplements. Known for its high doses of omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil can be a great contributor to our overall health when added as a supplement to our daily diets (especially if we’re not eating enough seafood!). The benefits of fish oil are bountiful extensive studies have shown that, when combined with healthy eating and an active lifestyle, it can: Boost heart health Reduce weight and waist circumference Reduce inflammation Promote vision and eye health Promote bone health Promote hair growth Improve skin conditions Improve symptoms of depression and anxiety Reduce the risk of cancer and some autoimmune diseases While adding fish-oil supplements to our daily diet may sound like a no-brainer, there are still some potential side-effects to think about before jumping in. For one, fishy burps (gross!) are a common occurrence after swallowing these capsules (though flavored coatings can help!). It’s also estimated that 90% of fish oils on the market contain mercury and other contaminants that can be harmful to our health if taken too frequently moderation and proper dosage is definitely key when it comes to consuming fish oil (or eating fish in general).

Chin-Tucks Have you ever had a horrible headache after sitting at your desk (or in a car) all day? If so, you’re not alone! Sitting and staring at a computer screen (or the road) for 8+ hours can have some damaging effects on our bodies especially our neck, shoulders, and lower back. As we become increasingly fatigued throughout the day, we tend to slouch forward toward our desks or computers. This poor posture causes extra stress on our neck, which often results in sore mu...scles, cramps, or tension headaches. Over time, these aggravating ailments (combined with mental and emotional stress) can negatively affect our mood and productivity. Luckily, there’s a handful of exercises that we can do in our seats to help minimize posture-induced pain in our neck and shoulders. Today, we’re going to challenge ourselves with some chin-tucks! Here’s how they’re done: 1. Sit up straight with your shoulders drawn down and back (and tummy tightened). 2. Start by bringing your head straight back and slowly tucking your chin toward your neck (like a double-chin). 3. Keep your chin tucked for 5 seconds, then slowly release it back to the starting position that’s one rep. 4. Repeat the movement 10 times that’s one set. Perform the desired amount of sets for your need. "Sonic Boom" See more

Passive-aggressive people aren’t easy to deal with especially when you work or live with them every day. But rather than meeting their super-subtle hostility directly, you can take action to thwart their unwanted behavior and avoid those awkward, unproductive situations in the first place! Common and (oh-so-frustrating) examples of passive-aggressive behavior: Giving the silent treatment or cold shoulder Deliberately failing to follow-through with agreed-upon tasks... Dishing out backhanded compliments Redirecting blame back to you Slinging sarcastic remarks Treat everyone you meet today with patience, kindness, and respect (especially the passive-aggressive types)! Spread good vibes to those around you, and encourage others to do the same. And if you’re met with an antagonistic attitude, don’t get flustered or frustrated react kindly like you would with anyone else! Don’t take the bait keep your cool composure, and then continue with your day. 4 ways to disarm passive-aggressive behavior Use humor. Laughter can release tension from almost any situation. When bearing the brunt of a passive-aggressive attack, respond with a harmless joke or quirky quip! (Just be mindful that you aren’t making passive-aggressive or hurtful remarks in response.) Seek an understanding. Many passive-aggressive people express themselves that way because certain emotional needs aren’t being met. Try to imagine where they’re coming from, and, if it’s appropriate, see if you can be a listening ear (but try to do so in a way that doesn’t encourage their unwanted behavior). Enlist some help. If a coworker’s passive-aggressive attitude is seriously affecting your ability to do your job, avoid making a bad problem worse by taking matters into your own hands get your manager or HR involved. Granted, this advice doesn’t apply to situations with your spouse, in which case you’ll want to Talk it out. Point out specific examples of what they said (rather than make sweeping generalities like, you ALWAYS do this!), and express how their words made you feel. Don’t ignore the issue sweeping the passive-aggressive problem under the rug may only prolong its awkward effects. The sooner you get it all out in the open, the sooner you can go back to living in peace! Sonic side-note: There’s no single magic bullet solution that can put a complete stop to passive-aggressive behavior. You’ll have to carefully evaluate each instance (and your relationship with each person!) in order to determine the best approach that will lead to a healthy, peaceful conflict-resolution. Whatever happens, control what you can control (which is your positive attitude). Sonic Boom

Planning to score some sweet Black Friday deals? Thousands of stores across the country have slashed their prices to kick off the holiday-shopping season and as a result, hitting the mall today means crazy crowds, cranky customers, and Christmas carols on loop. As unappealing as this may sound to some of us, braving the department store doesn’t have to be a horrendous experience. The stresses of holiday shopping can take a toll on our physical, emotional, and mental wellbei...ng but there are steps we can take to make shopping a happier (and healthier!) experience even today! Don’t let Black Friday dampen your holiday spirit! Be mindful of your blessings, and try to stay sane while you shop. Check out our go-to stress-busting tips below, and share ‘em with colleagues, friends, and family to help them stay stress-free during the holiday-shopping season: Engage your endorphins Instead of parking as close as possible to the store you’re visiting (and fighting a bunch of people for those prime spots), park in the back of the lot or on the other side of the mall or building and add more physical activity to your outing! While you’re waiting in line, don’t just stand there! Do some calf raises or stretch out that neck while you wait your turn. Keep your cool Black Friday can be stressful (to say the least). Remember that the holiday season is about more than gifts and discounts. Instead of screaming at a fellow shopper for snatching the last must-have item off the shelf, think about how lucky you are to have special people in your life to shop for (and the extra money to buy them gifts!). Be grateful, not hateful! If the long lines and lack of parking start to stress you out, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and think of someone or something that brings you joy. And remember that missing out on a "big deal" is NOT really that big of a deal. Forego the food court Bring snacks! Sure, you can probably find something semi-nutritious to eat in the food court if you look hard enough. But bringing your own food will save you time, calories, and money while on-the-go. Eat before you leave and shop between meals. Bring a water bottle with you, too! Sonic Boom Wellness
