S E L F C A R E Heard of it? Self care is a game changer. Especially the way you look at it. Self care truly is tending to yourself - emotionally, physically, spiritually. ... Sure this can mean a spa day with the girls, a day off work or an extra hour of sleep. But more importantly it can be a ritual or tool you use in normal, everyday life. It can mean a screen break, eating lunch outside, walking around the block, being open to receiving messages your body is sending you, listening to your stress and making a concrete plan to address it, scheduling an appointment you’ve been procrastinating or doing an act of service for another. There are so many ways to make self care accessible and helpful! I invite you to identify ONE THING you can do today to nourish your self care wellness plan #selfcare #selfcarejourney #selfhealers #mocwc #wellnessworks #bewell #beaware #mind #body #spirit #feedyoursoul See more

Can we normalize bad days and dark moments? So many of us silently struggle with these kinds of feelings. We try to push through alone or wait for things to get better. It’s a tough spot to be in. It’s hard to think of healthy coping strategies when we are locked and blocked. We recommend creating a list in the notes on your phone with SEVERAL coping strategies that work for you. When triggered or stressed, look through the list for p...ossible ways you can soothe yourself. Keep working down the list until you find one that feels helpful. So many of us look to others to make us feel better. True comfort comes from being aware of your own needs and what will best help YOU through a hard day or a dark place. Make a mental health check in an important part of your communication skills. Asking directly about mental health can be a great way to engage someone you care about in their wellness needs. If you feel disengaged and overwhelmed, it’s okay to reach out and be direct about what you need. I’m feeling overwhelmed. Do you have some time to talk? I’m struggling with stress/sleep/work/parenting and I could use a sounding board. ... I would love a break from my environment. Do you want to meet at the park/beach or go for a walk/hike/bike ride? I could use a few hours to connect with you. Can we plan a date night/girls night/guy time? How we feeling today, friends? #mocwc #mentalhealth #communication #newskills #growthgoals #emotionalintelligence #selfhealing #stressless #wellnessworks #loveyourself See more

Hi friends Mission Oaks Counseling & Wellness Center Owners Tristen Vance + Michelle Wonders here. It’s been a minute and we wanted to make sure to say hello. I thought it might be fun to share a few random details about the Owners of Mission Oaks Counseling & Wellness Center. 1 Tristen and Michelle met in 2004 when Tristen sought out Michelle as a mentor for building a successful private practice. We used to share a teeny,... tiny 500 sq ft office in Mission Oaks (some of you remember that quaint little space!). 2 In 2011 Tristen and Michelle decided to expand the practice to include wellness services like yoga, meditation, nutrition, facials, massage as adjuncts to therapy and to promote client self care. 3 July 1, 2012 we opened Mission Oaks Counseling & Wellness Center with a team of seven brave practitioners! Fun fact ... Tristen got married five days later (just a standard week). 4 We are very team oriented. We absolutely CHERISH our team! They bring us joy, enhance our community and understand our brand. Sometimes we miss the mark on finding the best fit and we always learn from those opportunities. We see ourselves as a growth and training center for interns and associates wanting to build a private practice (which takes unique skills and talents). We truly feel we have the #bestteamintheworld and we hope you agree! 5 We both absolutely LOVE working with families, couples and individuals to instill hope, purpose and thoughtful communication in your relationships. It’s an honor to be any small part of your journey. We hope you are finding something positive when you scroll through our feed, reading our newsletter and referring your family and friends. Holy back to life...back to reality. Nothing like feeling that a new year is not an exit from a pandemic your first day of work in 2021 Well as many of you know ... I shed resolutions a decade ago and got smart about having an intentional word for the year. Last year my word was ENDURANCE and that really was fortuitous in ways I could have never imagined This year I have chosen HEALING By healing I interpret it as tending to ...heal ease repair help alleviate soften resolve. That list is to hold myself accountable in my own self healing + the self healing of the thousands of clients and patients we serve It won’t be easy to heal when many systems and people seem so broken, but I am committed to a daily practice of spending 10-30 minutes doing grounding work. Nothing insane here, but I will set an intention of healing for each day and identify ways I can soften a pandemic in my own home and in the homes of those I love and care about. So if you prefer resolutions or a growth word for your year...let us know what self healing you are planning for 2021. I would love to hear your thoughts PC @stephgodfrey #mocwc #intentions #inmyfeelings #healing #selfhealing #dailyintentions #elevateup #growyourgoals #accountability #groundingwork #pandemicproblems #california #telehealth #therapistsofinstagram See more

To be honest, I would say marriage + relationships were one of the most stressful session topics of 2020. If your relationship did not implode - give yourself a pat on the back and thank your partner for being a tremendous resource in your life (don’t forget to show affection!) If your relationship was challenging it’s important to share here that you are not alone. This is a manifestation that there is work to be done. This doesn’t mean you have to ...leave. This doesn’t mean that your partner needs to do all the changing. This means YOU NEED TO LOOK AT YOURSELF. We regularly project our issues onto our partner and if you are willing to observe this and do the work...oh you can grow! If you finger point and say you, you, you then I invite you to point that finger right back at yourself and say I, I, I...I need to grow...I need to learn. I need to take inventory of what I am doing to contribute to this dysfunction. Not every relationship is a good match. Sometimes we are better apart, particularly in abusive or emotional neglect situations. However, every partnership is worth a good fight. Take 5 mins to write down three acts of service you can provide your partner. Or three kind messages you will share with your partner this week. Or three things you could improve upon to increase healthy communication. Let’s uncover the truth and the patterns that wound the connection. This is self work you will never regret doing. The healthiest marriages do this regularly. It’s not that there aren’t challenges, it’s that they are met with love, self assessment, accountability + kindness. It takes tremendous humility and endurance, but it will change your interpersonal relationships for your entire life. Keep forgiving yourself. Keep forgiving your partner. Begin again. Begin again. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGIE Angela Barajas, MS, LMFT, has spent the past several years working with youth, families, and adults in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
