West Basin Municipal Water District's much needed Break Tank replacement is complete! #MNSWater planned and designed the new welded 194,000 gallon, 45-foot diameter steel tank. The tank holds micro and ultra-filtered water prior to the reverse osmosis process. After processing, the water is used at local petroleum refineries as boiler water. The project constructed a 40-foot tall, 200,000 gallon temporary onsite storage tank, installed soil stabilizing pressure grouted piers 35-feet deep beneath the replacement tank, and a cathodic protection system to prevent corrosion of the new tank. All work was completed within the working treatment facility. #WaterAwarenessMonth

#MNSTrans congratulates Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) for the Caltrans HQ Excellence in Transportation Award (Rural Highway) for the Piedras Blancas Realignment Project! To protect State Route 1 (SR-1) from bluff erosion, the highway was realigned up to 475 feet inland. SR-1 is an important link between San Luis Obispo and points north, including recreational areas along the central coast, Big Sur and Monterey. The highway is subject to wind, waves, storms and tidal action that eroded the bluff up to the roadway at several locations. The new highway lays lightly on the land along the natural ground surface to the extent possible. Three bridges constructed over creeks reduce the permanent impacts to wetlands and riparian areas. #2020EITAward

The California Coast Coastal Cleanup Day is happening EVERY SATURDAY in September at your local happy place! This year there are no large, centrally organized cleanup sites. Instead, cleanup will be self-guided and close to home. #MNS supports this important endeavor! Cleaning our neighborhoods, parks, streets, and storm drains helps protect our coast. Trash travels through storm drains, creeks and rivers to become beach and ocean pollution. Let’s help clean the beach by picking up litter in our communities! An exciting milestone for #MNSTrans on the Valley Transportation Authority’s Montague Expressway Pedestrian Overcrossing as the 229’ steel pedestrian bridge was lifted over the Montague Expressway. Over 25 semi-trucks equipment for the lift, 25 craftspeople working all night, and 2 massive cranes lifting the bridge in 2 segments were the culmination of extensive planning and coordination. The colorful fins on the steel bridge provide a unique gateway to City of Milpitas, City Government. Next stage is finishing the entrance to the bridge. Project partners: Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara, California, City of Milpitas, City Government, BARTSF Bay Area Rapid Transit District. Project Team: Biggs Cardosa Associates, Inc., Hill International, MNS Engineers, Inc., DMZ Builders and Artik Art & Architecture.
