Our department recently wrote a grant and was awarded extrication equipment for Lodi Fire and Liberty Fire in addition to our district. This vehicle extrication equipment was funded through a grant received from the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). There are three main pieces of equipment pictured below - a cutter, a spreader, and a ram. They are used in multiple scenarios, but mainly vehicle extrication. Departments across the country use these tools, or a variant, to cut and... open up vehicles to gain access to pinned/trapped victims. Due to their versatility and effectiveness they have earned the title of Jaws of Life. At Mokelumne Fire, we put in for these grants on a regular basis to update our equipment. We will use these tools to best serve our community. With the travel season around the corner, we would like to remind everyone to drive safe!

The Autism Awareness Society of America has named April Autism Awareness Month. This month they are promoting their Celebrating Differences campaign. This campaign is designed to build a better awareness of the signs, symptoms, and realities of autism, #CelebrateDifferences focuses on providing information and resources for communities to be more aware of autism, promote acceptance, and be more inclusive in everyday life. In honor, this year we will be wearing our new Autism Awareness shirts in support. We also would like to take the time to tell everyone to be safe and remember that if you have to go out, social distance yourself to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
