#Repost @tippingstructural May is #AffordableHousingMonth | The pandemic has had an incredible impact on the shortage of affordable housing. With increased loss in jobs, many people are enduring significant hardships. In many cities throughout the nation, housing prices have skyrocketed, resulting in a rise of homelessness. #AffordableHousing is a major component of a community's infrastructure, and overall health. We, at Tipping, believe strongly in the advocacy of pol...icies that support the development and rehabilitation of long-term affordable housing projects in the pipeline. We are grateful for our decades-long partnerships with several local affordable housing developers and energized by the responsibility we share to increase access to affordable housing for the most vulnerable communities. This month, we encourage all to reflect on the impact of affordable housing on the social and economic health and resilience of a #community." - Marc Steyer, Principal, Tipping Structural Selected Affordable Housing Projects: Tennyson Gardens, Light Tree Apts - @eden_housing Berkeley Hope - Bridhe, @berkeleyfoodandhousingproject La Fenix at 1950 - BRIDGE Housing, @missionhousing 4200 Geary, 1990 Folsom - @tndcsf Hacienda - @mercyhousing

As we look back at the year 2020, we can’t help but feel pride on so many levels. Yes, it was arguably the most challenging year in Mission Housing’s 49-year history. No one could have anticipated a global pandemic and all the challenges it would bring our communities. But our pride starts with the members of Mission Housing’s staff who have set the standard for service during these trying times and really defined what it means to be a community developer. Next, we’re proud... of our tenants who have stayed committed to keeping one another safe and healthy. And lastly, we’re proud of our community and its leadership for supporting Mission Housing through the many ups and downs of the year. On behalf of the entire Mission Housing family, we’d like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all our partners who supported our mission and collaborated with us to overcome 2020’s challenges from construction teams, to donors and sponsors, to volunteers and anyone who provided a service to Mission Housing’s communities. You are all the reason why we serve. May 2021 bring stability to all our lives as we turn the page to Mission Housing’s 50th anniversary. All the best, Sam Moss and Marcia Contreras Mission Housing’s Executive Team

Thank you to El Tecolote for telling the story of this important piece of art and of the Mission’s history, and major gratitude to all the collaborators working to bring it to La Fénix at 1950. We named it La Fénix because it’s supposed to symbolize a second chance, a second life. Having this mural come to life again over at La Fénix it’s symbolic of that.
