Has everyone been introduced to Dr. Allen?! She started with Mission Equine Hospital back in September 2018. Dr. Jennifer Allen is originally from Woodside, California who completed her bachelors degree from Cal Poly SLO and acquired her veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Dr. Allen worked as an equine practitioner in Washington state and England, and after several years in practice she decided to return to her home state of California. Her interests l...ie in equine sports medicine, all aspects of equine general practice, and small ruminants (goats-sheep). Having grown up showing and competing with clydesdales in driving competitions she hopes to get back into the show ring eventually. Also, in her spare time she is an outdoors enthusiast and enjoys hiking with friends and family. Please give a warm welcome to Dr. Allen! See more

Did you know that Mission Equine Hospital offers Pulse Magnetic Therapy? PEMF therapy is another method of utilizing a magnetic field, somewhat like static magnets, which have been used for centuries. PEMF systems are composed of coils of copper wire, through which a current of electrical energy is delivered. One of the benefits of PEMF versus static magnets is that the fields are typically much larger, so you do not have to place the PEMF coil right on the area needing ther...apy. This makes it easy to use on equine patients, by strategically placing the coils in known problem areas like joints and major muscle groups. In addition, PEMF beds are now widely used in rehabilitation centers to assist in therapy for degenerative conditions like arthritis and spine chronic pain. After short treatments over several days, owners and trainers can generally see and feel an improvement in the way the horse performs. PEMF therapy is used to treat stiff, sore, hard-working horses. The areas commonly treated are: neck, back, shoulders, stifles, hocks and feet. SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT The improvements we see from PEMF therapy are increasingly supported in the scientific literature. A quick review of PubMed (U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health), shows the wide range of growing literature on the biological and clinical effects of PEMF. Studies show the therapeutic effects of PEMF on: - Joint diseases - Patient recovery after arthroscopic surgery - Muscular fatigue and atrophy - Nerve regeneration - Neural regeneration See more
